He suffered 37 catastrophic wounds for the cause of freedom, losing the sight of 38 his right eye and suffering other injuries that require extensive 39 surgeries and rehabilitation; and 40

[640] 2 1 Whereas, he has shown himself worthy of the name Marine no less 2 on the battlefield than in the valiant manner in which he has fought 3 the fight toward recovery from his injuries; and 4 5 Whereas, there is no greater or more courageous sacrifice a man 6 can make than to risk his life for a noble cause, as Lance Corporal 7 Kyle Carpenter has done, and to honor his valor, Lance Corporal 8 Carpenter was presented with the Purple Heart in December 2010; 9 and 10 11 Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly counts it a great 12 privilege to recognize Lance Corporal Kyle Carpenter, one of the 13 Palmetto State’s finest, and the members with one voice pray for 14 his swift and complete recovery and offer their grateful thanks to 15 Almighty God for the service and sacrifice of this heroic son of 16 South Carolina. Now, therefore, 17 18 Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives 19 concurring: 20 21 That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this 22 resolution, honor the sacrifice made by Lance Corporal Kyle 23 Carpenter of the United States Marine Corps, seriously wounded 24 while serving a tour of military duty in Afghanistan, and express to 25 this courageous serviceman the deepest appreciation of a grateful 26 State and nation. 27 28 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 29 Lance Corporal Kyle Carpenter. 30 XX 31
