2. LOCAL COMMUNITY PLANNING PARTNERSHIP UPDATE

The Ferry Community Planning Partnership met on 25th August 2016 at Forthill Sheltered Housing Complex. As well as discussing the ongoing consultation for the preparation of the next Community Plan, the Partnership discussed a number of funding applications, further details of which are listed in 3.1

3. COMMUNITY PLAN UPDATE

3.1 Local Community Planning Funding Update

Local partners agreed the following Dundee Partnership Grants:-

 Application from Barnhill/St Margaret’s Playgroup for £1,750 to help with ongoing costs for the provision of childcare

 Application from the Dundee Jazz Festival for £1,625 to allow two events to take place, one a the Mackinnon Centre in Broughty Ferry and one at St Aidans (or other community venue) for Community Festivals

 Application from Neighbourhood Services Environment Section for £3,000 to enable additional seating and planting for the planned upgrade of Dawson Park.

 Application from Friends of Broughty Ferry Library for the provision of three new I-pad tablets for £1,209

 £600 was agreed for the Friends of Grove Academy to purchase Notice Boards that can be used not only by the Friends and Grove Academy but Local Community Planning Groups as well.

3.2 Engage in The Ferry

Consultation regarding the development of the new Community Plan continues throughout the Ward area. Residents’ views have been collected from a number of events and the data is being collated. Engage Dundee postcards have been left at a number of venues throughout Broughty Ferry and the consultation events both with the public and planners and providers will continue until the end of October.

3.3 Local Learning Partnership

The Local Learning Partnership met on 22nd August 2016 at Grove Academy and discussed the initial findings from the Dartington Survey. The Senior Information Officer from Children and Families Service was able to provide some detailed analysis of the figures and partners discussed the priorities which will need to feed into the wider Local Community Planning Consultation

1 3.4 Leisure and Culture Dundee

Dundee City Council, in partnership with Leisure and Culture and Friends of Broughty Ferry Library are seeking design proposals from external consultants for extending Broughty Ferry Library to create a Community/Library Hub. Project funding avenues are currently being reviewed.

4. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

4.1 Community Festivals, Broughty Ferry Traders Association

Over 3,000 attended the Gala Day on 3rd July and approximately 2,000 attended the second Ferry Food Fest at the Woodlands Hotel. Broughty Ferry Traders Association is now working on the Lights Night which will be held on 24th November and which will include the popular Christmas Poster Design competition. The Traders continue to donate to local causes and raised over £600 for the Helm Project at the recent Ferry Food Fest.

4.2 Broughty Ferry Community Council

Broughty Ferry Community Council meet again after the summer recess on 6th September. A Sub- Group met over the summer to submit an application to the Community Choices Fund and the Community Council will be developing an action plan and undertaking training in Committee Skills, Planning and Licensing. This will take place on 27th September at DVA.

4.3 Friends of Broughty Ferry Library

The Youth area is now being upgraded and ‘The Friends’ were involved in a film by The Co-op after being successful in receiving a community grant from them. The film will highlight the good work that goes on in Broughty Ferry Library and the valuable contribution made by the Friends of Broughty Ferry Library. ‘The Friends’ continue to develop their programme of evening events with a full programme over the autumn period, details of which are obtainable from the Library.

4.4 Broughty Ferry Youth Work Network

Continues to meet on a quarterly basis and has provided a directory of provision of all Youth Work services in Broughty Ferry. The 44th Boys Brigade attended the last meeting and after a successful bag drop managed to attract 47 boys to the junior section of the organisation. Partners involved in the Broughty Ferry Youth Work Network continue to work together for the benefit of the local area.

4.5 BERA

The Adult Education classes have now started back after the school holidays. Classes at Forthill are yoga (Monday and Tuesday) and ballroom dancing (Thursday); Tuesdays at Grove have Spanish, bridge, jewellery making and baking. Thursdays have Italian classes and meditation. BERA are thinking of running one night tasters for art and creative sewing and welcome any suggestions for new classes.

2 4.6 BROUGHTY FERRY LIBRARY

The Library has seen another successful Big Friendly Read through the Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge. The prize giving for this will take place in Castle Green Leisure Centre. Details are available at the Library.

4.7 BROUGHTY FERRY TIMEBANK

Timebank will have events at 39 Gray Street,Broughty Ferry from Monday 21st November to Saturday 10th December. The intention is to promote the Timebank to the community and will provide an information point on all things to do with the Timebank. There will also be a fundraising element in that they have items on sale such as knitwear, craft items, cards, gifts, home baking and teas and coffee. . 4.8 BROUGHTY FERRY DEVELOPMENT TRUST

BFDT held their AGM on the 27th August at Castle Green. A presentation about the ongoing work and future plans was given to Members. The Trustees will be holding their first meeting in September and look forward to continuing to work with other groups and organisations over the coming year.
