1 [1205] 1 1 a physician on hold, but never doubting that one day she would 2 achieve that dream; and 3 4 Whereas, through her hard work and perseverance, Ms. Lane 5 graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1996 with a 6 B.S. in Nursing, and went on to work as a nurse in the Labor and 7 Delivery Unit at Palmetto Baptist Hospital in Columbia; and 8 9 Whereas, with her commitment to rigorous study, Ms. Lane went 10 on to be promoted to a charge nurse within a year, making it one of 11 the fastest promotions to date within the Women’s and Children’s 12 Services department, and she has not slowed down since; and 13 14 Whereas, accepted to medical school in 2000, Ms. Lane excelled in 15 everything that crossed her path, and she has been recognized for 16 her service to the community as well as to MUSC and the 17 departments with which she has worked; and 18 19 Whereas, Ms. Lane, along with her brother, Shakeem Kenya Lane, 20 will become the first sister and brother to graduate at the same time 21 from the College of Medicine and the first African-American 22 siblings ever to graduate from the College of Medicine at MUSC; 23 and 24 25 Whereas, specializing in Dermatology, Ms. Lane has accepted an 26 invitation to do her internship at Spartanburg Regional Medical 27 Center and will do her residency at the New York University 28 Hospital; and 29 30 Whereas, throughout her life Ms. Lane has dealt with a number of 31 seemingly insurmountable setbacks on the path toward her goal of 32 becoming a doctor. Through these setbacks, Ms. Lane has kept a 33 positive attitude, and while at times her goal was hard to see, her 34 heart never lost sight of her dream; and 35 36 Whereas, Tameka Lane is an example of triumph though adversity 37 and the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are 38 more than proud to call her one of our own. Now, therefore, 39 40 Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives 41 concurring: 42
1 [1205] 2 1 That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South 2 Carolina, by this resolution, honor and recognize the outstanding 3 achievements of Tameka Kimesung Lane of Blair, South Carolina, 4 in the field of medicine, congratulate her upon her graduation from 5 the Medical University of South Carolina on May 21, 2004, and 6 extend best wishes to her in all her future endeavors. 7 8 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 9 Tameka Kimesung Lane of Blair, South Carolina. 10 ----XX---- 11
