Teacher Information Name Lories Slockbower Date Feb. 14, 2010 Lesson Overview Lesson description Students use PowerPoint to create a game based on the TV show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Main Subject: Mass Media Secondary Subjects Grade and/or class Grades 9-12 NJCCCS standards 3.1, 3.2.3.3, 3.4, 3.5 NJCCCS 8.1 standards 8.1.12.B.1- design & pilot a digital learning game, 8.1.12.A.2 NETS-S standards 1,2,3,4.5,6 Pre-requisite skills & Power Point, knowledge of mass media curriculum knowledge  Students locate information about a particular area of the curriculum and identify the most important facts about that subject.  Students incorporate those facts, in the form of questions and answers, into a PowerPoint presentation. Learning Objectives  Students create a PowerPoint presentation as a digital learning game.  Students present the game to their peers

Procedures (add rows as needed) Teacher Activity Groupin g  1. Discuss the game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? with students. Be sure they understand the rules of the game. (Play a video of game show if necessary.) Arrange students into groups to create a list of questions and answers about a particular area of the curriculum. (The game can be adapted to any area of the curriculum and include as many or as few questions as desired.) yes  Students work in groups to create a list of questions regarding mass media for their version of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” by researching mass media on Internet.

 2. Provide students in each group with the TechKnow Genius template.  Ask each group to make 14 copies of slides 2, 3, and 4 in the template.
