Cuba! Education, Arts and Culture

January 7 – January 16, 2018

Explore Cuban education, arts and culture in January of 2017 with Witness for Peace. Get to know Cubans from all walks of life while taking part in this People to People Delegation, a travel and study experience we’ve been leading to this island nation since 1999.

This trip is aimed at educators and others who want to visit and study Cuba's urban and rural educational programs from primary to university levels, including professional schools such as the Latin American School of Medicine and the National School of Arts. Included are meetings with professionals, families, elected officials, neighborhood organizing committees, and visits to artists’ collectives, museums, and historical sites.

Participants in this delegation will:

 Examine Cuban national priorities, such as universal education and health care.  Visit schools, museums, cultural and historical sites.  Discuss with Cubans the effects of recent changes in U.S. and Cuban relations including the longstanding U.S. embargo on Cuba.  Experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of old Havana, its neighborhoods, and the surrounding countryside.

Today’s popular narrative in the U.S. is that dramatic and much needed change is coming to Cuba. Maybe, maybe not ... and from whose point of view? Come with us in January, 2018. Speak with the people themselves. Ask questions. Let’s hear what they are thinking and what their plans are. See it for yourself. It’s a serious trip and a lot of fun.

Deadline: Applications and a $150 deposit are due by November 7, 2017. The remaining balance is due by December 8, 2017.

Cost: The cost of the trip is $1,900 plus visa fee and airfare. This cost includes all meals, accommodations, facilitation, interpretation, and transportation while in Cuba.
