Veteran Day Writing Contest
Veterans Day is right around the corner. We would like to take the time to Thank and Honor those who are currently serving or have served in our Armed Forces.
Rules: 1. Submit a two page, doubled space, 12 point font, typed essay on one of the following topics. 2. Please include your name, grade, school, and Teacher’s name
Choose ONE Topic:
1. Interview a Veteran about his or her life experiences. Write a biography based on the interview. 2. Personal Story about a Veteran who has made a difference in your life or hometown. How have they impacted your life, neighborhood, or community? Stories can be a current military member or can be a veteran who has gone on to serve their communities as Teachers, Coaches, First Responders, Mentors, and etc. 3. Write an acrostic Poem using the word “Veteran” or “Veterans” Please see attached form.
Prizes:
1. 1st Place- will receive a $100 Gift Certificate to Barnes and Noble. We will also give the winner’s classroom $250.00! 2. 2nd Place- will receive a $75.00 Gift Certificate to Barnes and Noble. 3. 3rd Place- will receive $50.00 Gift Certificate to Barnes and Noble.
*Our Top 50 entries will be posted on the Fredericksburg Parent Magazine Website. The Free Lance Star will also announce the winners!!!!
All entries must be submitted to your school’s counseling office by November 1s, 2013. Any questions should be directed to Dinah Richardson at [email protected].
We will announce the winners on or around Veterans Day!!!!
Contest: 6th thru 8th grade And 9th thru 12th grade An acrostic is a poem built on a special word. The word written vertically. Then, each letter of a word serves as the first letter of a line of the poem. (Please use Veteran or Veterans)
