Position: Lawyer to transition into Executive Director position in 2018 Hours: Full-Time Reports to: Board of Directors Salary: Commensurate with Education and Experience Start Date: August 2017 Application Deadline: 5 p.m. May 8, 2017

Seniors First BC is a full service non-profit organization which operates the Seniors Abuse and Information Line, the Elder Law Clinic and Legal Advocacy Program, a Victim Services program, and information through our Website, Publications, Workshops and Presentations at various events.

Positions Overview Lawyer Primary responsibilities are to:  Provide legal representation to Elder Law Clinic clients, and maintains a case load of Elder Law Clinic clients. Our clients are generally older adults who are low income or who face barriers to obtaining legal services elsewhere.

 Represent clients in court, at tribunals, in alternate dispute resolution settings and carries out formal and informal advocacy on behalf of clients.

 Work effectively in a team environment with other Seniors First BC programs.

 Maintain active participation in the legal community.

 Attend community consultations and advisory committees.

 Present at conferences and other community events.

The position is to transition into the dual role of Clinic Lawyer and Executive Director over several months. Executive Director

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, and ensures that our programs comply with Board approved policies and direction.

Primary responsibilities are to:  Direct and oversee the operation of Seniors First BC.

 Establish relationships with funders and key stakeholders for funding and program development.

 Speak with media on policy and legal and social advocacy issues.

 Hold regular Board Meetings and the Annual General Meeting.

The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications:

1. Professional Designation - Called to the Bar in British Columbia, Canada.

2. Have an understanding of issues that impact older adults including elder abuse. Experience working with older adults would be an asset.

3. Strong organizational skills combined with strong team-building and interpersonal skills.

4. A minimum four years’ experience in the practice of law, including direct client work and experience representing clients at court or hearings.

5. Strong presentation skills and the ability to represent Seniors First BC at events in the legal community and the community at large.
