JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITY STATEMENT

1. POST TITLE: Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach - Lead

2. ROLE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION

 Coordinate and deliver strength and conditioning support for the Munster Academy and Sub Academy.  Coordinate and deliver fitness testing according to the IRFU test protocols and timetable for the Munster Academy and Sub Academy.  Contribute to the overall performance of the Munster Fitness department across all levels of delivery.

Operational: Head of Fitness, Munster

Functional: Munster Elite Performance Development Manager

4. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

 Munster Rugby and S&C Staff  Domestic Game Staff and Constituents  IRFU Academy S&C Coordinator  IRFU Head of Fitness  IRFU High Performance Manager

5. KEY QUALITIES

Essential:  Recognised degree or Higher National Diploma in Physical Education, Human Movement or Sports Science.  A recognised Professional certification strength and conditioning.  A minimum of 3 years full-time experience in professional rugby environment.  A verifiable record of programme design and delivery of physical development programmes for adolescent and adult rugby players.  An understanding of training science and data management as these pertain to current strength and conditioning practices in high performance sport.  Practical coaching experience across all the elements of high performance strength and conditioning.  Effective time management and the proven ability to work independently.  The ability to work within a team and coordinate both full-time and part-time Strength and Conditioning colleagues.  Excellent communication and presentation skills.  Excellent Computer literacy skills.

Desirable:  A verifiable record of delivering strength and conditioning support for a high performance rugby team including; training camp and match day experience.  Recognised First Aid and CPR certification;  Excellent organisational, interpersonal and analytical skills.  A post graduate degree in a sport or exercise science related area.

6. RESPONSIBILITIES

General areas of responsibility include:

 Design, deliver and coordinate the Munster Academy and Sub Academy strength and conditioning programmes.  Coordinate the Munster Academy and Sub Academy annual fitness testing according to IRFU protocols and testing schedule.  Capture, store and manage all fitness test and training data and ensure that it is reviewed and informs strength and conditioning support for Munster Academy and Sub Academy Players.  Responsible for the design and delivery of all fitness, recovery and game preparation elements for the Munster Academy and Sub Academy.  Deliver strength and conditioning support to the senior professional programme as and when required.

7. PERFORMANCE MEASURES

 Maintain effective relationships with various staff within the Province, and the IRFU.  Carry out duties and responsibilities to an effective and efficient standard  Establish excellent work practices.  Make effective and informed decisions in relation to the role and the department.  Portray a competent and professional image of Munster Rugby and the IRFU on behalf of Munster’s Fitness department.

8. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

NB: The following KPI’s are general. Specific targets will be set for your role. The meetings will also include an appraisal and review of the attainment of the KPI’s set at previous meetings. An end of year review will also take place where the duties and responsibilities will be fully appraised.

 Deliver specific targets agreed with Munster’s Head of Fitness, Elite Performance Development Manager, Head Coach, National High Performance Manager and IRFU Head of Fitness.  Ensure that the Academy’s fitness testing is completed according to the correct protocols and schedule and that test data is managed and stored effectively.
