I’ve found that in life you have to experience bad times to learn how to live life. When going through tough times one can find motivation, and inspiration to apply oneself. In my paper I’ll be comparing a memoir with a movie to show exactly what I mean. Life can be tough, and both these stories show how a boy can turn into a man over night, through family and hard work ethic. My story from CILCTE is “Growing Up” by Russell Baker, and I’ll be synthesizing that with the motion picture Forest Gump.

“Growing Up” is a memoir from Russell Baker, where a young man has difficulty finding himself in a troubled world. Russell has no idea what he’s going to do after high school, but has his mother that loves him and has complete faith in his ability. Though she doesn’t push him to hard, he finds Motivation, and inspiration to succeed. Forest

Gump is about a young man born with a serious birth defection. His father runs out and leaves just Forest and his mother to raise him. Forest’s mother was very inspirational as well, and taught him never to give up, and just because you’re not the smartest man, doesn’t mean you stop living.
