ELS Language Centers has been teaching English to the world for more than 40 years. Our teachers and staff have the training of advanced degrees and the experience of living overseas. As one of over 40 U.S.A. Centers and more than 45 International Schools, we are able to gain the experience and knowledge of the teachers and staff at our other locations as well. We take pride in our cultural awareness and make every effort to meet the individual needs of each and every student at ELS Language Centers/Ruston.

Academic Program

ELS Language Centers offers the student the opportunity to move from virtually no knowledge of English to university level ability in only 12 four-week sessions. Beginning in Level 104, students can choose their own elective classes from such courses as Pronunciation and Intermediate Idioms, with Levels 107 and above having such choices as Speech and Debate, Current Events and the very popular TOEFL Preparation. For those who want more, we have a Masters Program in English available to students who have completed Level 109. Class days begin at 8:30 a.m. and finish at 3:45 p.m., except on Fridays when they end at 12:20 p.m., giving students much of the afternoon free to practice English with friends, take more independent lab studies (FREE), or take care of personal business matters. English for Executives, Super-Intensive English Programs, and a wide variety of other Special Programs are available right here at ELS Language Centers/Ruston.

Location

ELS Language Centers/Ruston is housed on the beautiful campus of Louisiana Tech University, home of the Bulldogs. Located in the Piney Woods Country of North Louisiana, the area is home to parks, lakes, and world-class mountain biking trails and many regional festivals and events, including the annual Ruston Peach Festival and the first circuit of the XTERRA Races. Students can enjoy local eateries, stores and activities, or they can take a drive (New Orleans, Monroe, Shreveport, or Dallas) for a wider range of dining, shopping, and entertainment experiences. Ruston is a safe, friendly southern town that enjoys a moderate climate and is close-knit with the university. Students are actively engaged with community and civic organizations.

On the campus of Louisiana Tech University, students benefit from the many opportunities offered at a large public institution. Our students are never strangers at the cafeteria, library, cyber café, swimming pool or fitness center. ELS/Ruston students often attend sporting events, such as football, basketball, baseball, and many others, all free of charge. Other areas of interest on-campus include Hideaway Park and The Kennel. Walking trails, exercise stations, and frisbee golf are just a few activities that can be seen in the park just across from campus housing. At The Kennel, located under the university bookstore, students can play pool and bowl. Louisiana Tech University is a pedestrian friendly location with numerous sidewalks leading not only to through the heart of campus but also to the historic downtown area of Ruston. ELS Language Centers is the place to be if you are in business, a student, or a first time visitor to the United States. Business students find that ELS Language Centers offers a great opportunity to make contacts and practice the skills necessary for using English in the international arena of marketing and management. Students who complete the 112 level of the Intensive Program are eligible for acceptance at over 500 universities, including Louisiana Tech University, without the TOEFL or other language exam.
