Olympic Day For First Graders

A Webquest for 5th graders

Introduction

The first graders want an Olympic Day, but the Physical Education teacher does not have the time to plan it. The principal has asked the fifth graders to come to the rescue! Will you take up this challenge? Can you and your team come up with the games and snacks in time? Get together with your team and plan an Olympic Day that will go down in history!

Task

Your task is to plan an Olympic Day for the first grade and submit it to the principal. You will plan games and provide a snack.

1. First, you will be put into teams of 4. 2. Then you will decide on what part you’d like to plan 3. Two students will plan the games and two students will plan the snacks. 4. Game planners search for the best games for Olympic Day. You must have a variety of games. Have individual games, paired games, and team races. Remember to include different motor skills for the games. These skills are locomotor, nonlocomotor, and manipulative skills. Game planners need to find 8 – 10 games that first graders can play. 5. Snack planners search for the best snacks for Olympic Day. You must have a variety of snacks. Healthy snacks from the fruits, vegetables, protein, and grain categories are to be chosen. Have at least 3 snacks. Snacks can be a combination of 2 or more categories. 6. Game planners make a list of all equipment needed to play each game that was chosen. 7. Snack planners make a list of all ingredients needed to make each snack. 8. Game planners make up a time table for setting up the games. 9. Snack planners make up a time table for preparing the snacks. 10. All team members help make up the schedule of games. As a team, you are to make sure all first graders get to participate in all games. 11. Check your team’s work for spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. Remember your team will give your ideas to the principal. 12. Hand in a copy of your plan for Olympic Day for the First Grade to your teacher. Keep a copy for your team to give to the principal.

Conclusion

You have done it! You used the Internet to gather information to accomplish your task. The first graders will have an Olympic Day with games and a snack. You have worked as a team to put together your ideas to make a schedule of the games, a list of equipment needed for the games, a list of ingredients for the snacks, and an estimation of the time to set up the Olympic Day. Both the principal and the Physical Education teacher appreciate your time and effort putting together a great Olympic Day for the first graders.
