Prepositions

Definition – a word used with a noun or pronoun that shows the relationship between the noun or pronoun and some other word in the sentence

Frequently used prepositions: about at but (except) in onto toward above before by inside out under across behind concerning into outside until after below down like over up against beneath during near past upon along beside except of since with among between for off through within around beyond from on to without

The noun or pronoun at the end of the phrase is called the object of the preposition.

Many words used as prepositions may also be used as adverbs if the word is NOT followed by a phrase. Ex: Everyone went out the back door. (preposition) Ex: Everyone went out. (adverb)
