Four questions were discussed, chosen by a poll by the group from a list on Adobe Connect Pro Meeting.

Question 1) How do we engage other alumni to become volunteers?

One to One asking them – Mollie Pulver and Cheryl Keithly

University of Arizona (Judy Mueller) when we give awards to people they become more involved when honored they come back

Kathy Grace (Michigan State University School of Packaging Volunteer) just started effort to be active at student level with juniors and seniors - more young alumni are coming back to events, but unknown if it is due to these efforts

Sharon Detzer (Cornell) is sponsoring once a semester a study break (University level is engaging with Senior Gift) - Young Alumni self-selected to volunteer (many have parents who were volunteers)

Renee Keese (Clemson) just ask them to volunteer in the future if they show up at an event. Naomi Knaub (Penn State) engaging with students through a student engagement committee/mentoring graduation brunch internship awards, scholarships, recent graduates

Darrin Lochner (University of Minnesota) - general request for help via social media sometimes works and a volunteer or two comes forward.

Dick Booth (Penn State) - Local chapters are volunteer sources for the college.

Question 2) How can we connect with Students?

Kathryn Reed (Michigan State) Student Club Grants - help clubs with travel to conventions, and special events on campus. Clubs may apply for up to $1,000 (special consideration can be requested for more).

Cheryl Keithly (University of Arizona) - request that students who receive funds come speak at a board meeting

Kathy Grace (MSU School of Packaging) Sponsor packaging design competitions on campus which funnel students to state, national and world competitions

Linda Bailey (Washington State) annual staff/faculty/student event....development student board (graduate or student- this is a concept in the works)

Sharon Detzer (Cornell) more alumni panels have been requested by the students. Students have requested this instead of putting limited resources towards a picnic.

Jamie Lucero (Virginia Tech) homecoming opportunity to interact with students and ambassadors.

Question 3) How do you promote your college scholarships/programs?

Judy Mellor (University of Arizona) World famous burrito breakfast fundraiser

Renee Keese (Clemson) Talking about it at every opportunity.

Sharon Detzler (Cornell) Deans on the Road to talk about it -small group gatherings

Naomi Knaub (Penn State) Graduation brunch - 1,000 students and friends attended this year. They have department alumni groups that are chartered and active with and for the students.

Question 4) What do you do to train your volunteers - new committee members? Sharon Detzer (Cornell) training program - Mollie Pulver was a great training person for their board. She reached out one to one. She found out what interested new board members, found them mentors and empowered them to take action.

Tina Veal at (University of Illinois), PowerPoint orientation is online webinar, every other year retreat for goals – Her orientation will be put up on the VCB website as a resource.
