Hood River County Education Foundation Teacher Grants 2017-18

The Hood River County Education Foundation is interested in funding educator and/or student-designed projects that exemplify excellence in education.

Who is eligible to apply? Any Hood River teacher, staff, District employee, or student is eligible to apply.

Deadlines and Timing Proposals must be received in the Foundation office by 5:00 pm on Thursday, January 5, 2017. You will be notified in mid-February of the Board’s decision. Projects should be completed within one year of award. The decisions of the Board are final.

Size of Grant Awards will not exceed $2,000 per grant. This is a $1,200 increase from previous years. Our hope is that a larger budget will allow for more innovative, impactful teaching ideas. Unfortunately, we have NOT also increased our total budget for Teaching Grants, so larger grants will necessarily mean fewer grants. Please keep this in mind as you consider your grant requests. We especially love inexpensive AND innovative ideas!

What kinds of projects are we looking for? HRCEF wants to support better ways to teach, new subjects to explore, and interesting experiments to try. Our intent is to provide the critical funds to turn the best of these ideas into action. We will consider requests for classroom supplies, special projects, residencies, professional development for teachers and other staff, new curricula, after-school programs, educational equipment, and new innovative ideas, among other things.

Ineligible Projects • Teaching grants will not be made to any fee-based programs. These include preschools, after-school care, and other programs requiring a fee. • As in years past, we will not consider requests for salary or field trip expenses. • For professional development requests, the Foundation will only fund registration fees, not travel expenses or substitutes. These grants must include a discussion of how the applicant will share the information gained in the event with colleagues. • If you have received a grant award in the past, you must submit a report on that grant before any new request will be considered. (Report Forms are available at www.hrcef.org >Grants>HRCEF Teacher Grant Report Form or contact the Foundation.) • Because HRCEF wants to encourage new and innovative ways for students to learn, preference will be given to new proposals for grants that have NOT been funded in the past (for the same or very similar project in the same classroom or school. Repeat grants will be still considered, but new ideas will receive preference. • Incomplete grants will not be considered.

Other Information • Funds not utilized for the purposes specified in the grant request must be returned to the

1009 Eugene Street, Hood River, Oregon 97031 | 541-387-5713 | www.hrcef.org 1 Foundation in a timely manner. All grant recipients will be required to submit a short report about their project and the use of funds received.
