Role Summary

We are recruiting an enthusiastic and proactive individual who is strongly committed to using new technologies and improving processes to make a positive impact on services.

Based at Kedleston Road Library, this is a key role requiring knowledge and experience of library technologies including library management systems, institutional repositories, content delivery and E- books.

The role includes managing the high performing Acquisitions, Metadata and Cataloguing and Copyright Clearance Unit teams.

The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent people management skills, with effective problem solving skills and attention to detail.

Principal Accountabilities

1. Maintain and strengthen the Library’s acquisition and delivery of print books, e-books and digitised content services.

2. Maintain and develop library technologies including library management systems, institutional repositories, content delivery and e-books.

3. Undertake all aspects of staff management, leadership, recruitment and development for the Acquisitions, Metadata and Cataloguing and Copyright Clearance Unit teams.

Lead and implement service planning, development and delivery for areas including:  Acquisitions, delivering innovative and effective models providing best value.  High-quality records and metadata standards and improving the discoverability of print, e-book and institutional repository collections.  Course-based digitised content.

5. Producing and interpreting reports and data to support service delivery needs and process improvements, including KPIs and statistical information.

6. Maintain appropriate financial data and records.

7. Work closely and communicate with internal colleagues and external suppliers, providers and agencies to plan, implement, deliver and monitor key projects and new technologies.

8. Deliver excellent and responsive systems and services for all users.

9. Carry out any other duties that may be required as commensurate with your job and grade, including enquiry points and open days.

2 Person Specification

Essential  Degree level qualification in Library/Information work or equivalent experience  Experience of developing Library technologies, including library management systems, online catalogues, institutional repositories, digitised content delivery services and E-Resources (including e-books)  Operational experience of Library Acquisitions supply chains  Experience of managing or supervising staff  Knowledge and application of information standards / metadata including MARC and/or RDA cataloguing  Experience of delivering excellent services and solutions with a strong customer focus  Excellent standard of Digital Literacy and Digital Skills  Experience of project management  Willingness and ability to undertake some evening / weekend duties, with occasional working across sites  Willingness and ability to attend appropriate internal and external events, including training and development  Demonstrable ability to manage strict financial, budgetary and administrative deadlines  Demonstrable ability to solve problems and manage change flexibly and creatively  Demonstrable and effective negotiation and influencing skills

Desirable  Member of professional bodies and networks, e.g. CILIP  Experience of working in an HE academic library environment  Management qualification

Potential for further salary progression based on performance, once in post, up to £38,414 per annum
