NEW STUDENT ARRIVAL DAY AUGUST 16, 2009

WELCOME NEW STUDENTS, FAMILIES AND FRIENDS!

Arrival day has been designed to ensure a smooth and memorable transition for you and your family to the Maritime College. The following is a detailed description of what to expect on this important day:

Phase 1: ARRIVAL TO CAMPUS

 Driving directions to campus are available on our Maritime College website at http://www.sunymaritime.edu/About%20Maritime/Directions.aspx

 We request that you arrive to the Maritime College campus in accordance with the following arrival timeline in order to ensure a smooth check-in process. Please notify Admissions at 718-409-2220 if you cannot make your scheduled arrival time.

 Last names beginning with A-H arrive between 8-8:45 am.  Last names beginning with I-P arrive between 8:45-9:30 am.  Last names beginning with Q-Z arrive between 9:30-10:15 am.

 Upon arrival to campus, you will be welcomed by members of the College community and directed to the appropriate check-in area based on designated status as “Express” or “Non-express”.

 EXPRESS CHECK-IN: Students that have satisfied all requirements listed below prior to arrival will be considered “Express Check-In”

1) Student account balance paid in full (tuition, housing and all fees) 2) Uniform payment to the Ship’s Store 3) Medical form complete including Inoculation Record 4) Copy of transcript submitted to Admissions

If you have met the EXPRESS CHECK-IN requirements prior to arrival, you will be directed to an UNLOADING AREA for your rooming assignment.

 NON EXPRESS CHECK-IN: New students who have incomplete items in any of these areas MUST resolve those issues prior to proceeding to an Unloading Area. You will be directed to a temporary parking location and to the lobby of RIESENBERG HALL to clear these outstanding issues.

We strongly encourage you to clear these items prior to your arrival; this will ensure a smooth Check- In. If you need to confirm your status, please contact Admissions at 718-409-2220.

Phase 2: UNLOADING AREA AND MOVE-IN

 Upon arriving at your designated Unloading Area, you will be greeted by members of our cadet corps who will assist with unloading your vehicle and moving into your assigned room. You will be separated from your family at this time. All vehicles will be directed to designated parking lots if you plan on staying through the scheduled briefing and swearing-in ceremony to be held later this morning.

Phase 3: NEW STUDENT PROCESSING

NEW STUDENTS…  Once you have moved your belongings into your designated room, a cadet leader will direct you through new student processing.

 Students will be processed through the following three stations:

 Military Indoctrination haircuts (Men only)  Medical record review and color vision testing  Sea bag issue  Completion of Personal Data sheet

 Following processing, new students will return to their dormitory room, change, and then begin training in their new sections with their Indoctrination Officers. Gear required for the move onto the training ship will also be separated, packed into the issued sea-bag, and readied for move following lunch. Note: All medications, including inhalers and/or athletic braces are to be included for move onto the ship.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS…

 Upon dropping off your new student, all are welcome to attend a briefing and swearing in ceremony at 11:45 am in Vander Clute Hall. If you plan on attending the briefing, you will be directed to long-term parking and will then proceed to Vander Clute Hall where you can interact with new families, faculty, staff and administration. Refreshments will be provided.

Phase 4: PARENTS AND FAMILY BRIEFING BY THE COLLEGE PRESIDENT AND COMMANDANT

 The Maritime College President and Commandant of Cadets will welcome all parents and guests at 11:45 am in Vander Clute Hall. The Indoctrination Program will be explained and any questions addressed by the Regimental Staff.

 A New Cadet Swearing-In Ceremony for the Class of 2013 will immediately follow at 12:15 pm in the Quadrangle.

 After the Swearing-In Ceremony, parents/families will be given the chance to say final goodbyes. We ask that all family and friends depart campus by 12:45. Phase 5: COMMENCEMENT OF INDOCTRINATION FOR THE CLASS OF 2013

 At 12:45 pm the Class of 2013 will officially begin Indoctrination.

 New students will be divided into six training sections, which will work together throughout the Indoctrination period under direct supervision of the Regimental Staff and assigned Indoctrination Officers (juniors), and Squad Leaders (sophomores).

Next Milestone: FAMILY DAY, AUGUST 29th

 On Saturday, August 29, 2009 at 10:00 am on Reinhart Athletic Field, a Family Day ceremony, competition, and Pass-in-Review by the Class of 2013 will take place. All parents and family are cordially invited to attend. At this event, the cadets will demonstrate some of their accomplishments achieved over the previous two weeks and the teamwork developed as the Class of 2013. They will be sworn in as Cadets at the State University of New York Maritime College.

 Following the activities on Saturday, August 29th, the cadets are permitted to return home. They are required to be back at the college by 10:00 pm on Monday, August 31st 2009.

MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION

RESTROOMS ON CAMPUS:

Restrooms are located in multiple areas around campus, to include all check-in stations, residence halls, McMurray Hall, Vander Clute Hall, and Marvin Tode Hall.

NEW CADET CONTACT INFORMATION:

Parents and friends are reminded that cadets are not allowed to make or receive phone calls during the Indoctrination period. If you need to contact your student for an emergency, please call the Regimental Office at 718-409-7352.
