Research Paper Checklist and Integrity Statement CP 2016

Before you submit your research paper on March 31 in print and on turnitin.com, you must use this checklist to make sure that you have completed all of these requirements, and you must sign the integrity statement on the back.

Content / Organization: __ I have an interesting, relevant title. I have a lead-in/hook for my paper. I DO NOT give evidence to support the thesis/claim in my introductory paragraph. I have not used the thesis statement idea more than one time in the introduction. __ The last sentence in my introductory paragraph tells exactly what the body of my paper will prove. This sentence is my thesis statement/claim. I have highlighted or underlined it. __ I have topic sentences at the beginning of every body paragraph. Each topic sentence clearly gives the focus for the paragraph. __ All parts of my paper clearly relate to my thesis statement. __ I use effective transitions to move from one idea to the next between and within paragraphs. __ My details are accurate, relevant, and sufficient. __ All of my secondary quotes are integrated. I understood my quotes, and they clearly relate to the thesis statement. My choices for quotes strengthen points that I am making. No more than 25 percent of the paper is from sources, primary and secondary. __ I give clear, consistent, and specific details and examples to prove my thesis statement.

Elements of Research: __ I have four different secondary sources in my paper, and I quote from the novel at least four times. Ms. Owen approved any Internet source that was not found on GaleNet or Galileo. (You MUST get my initials on the printout before you use it.) ___I have photocopies or print outs of my source material (quotes and works cited information). I understand that my paper cannot be graded without the necessary documentation and that it will be considered late until I provide what is needed. I have highlighted or underlined the exact passages that I used and the areas that give the works cited information. __ I integrated all secondary quotes; none of my sentences begin with quotation marks. __ For all of my quotes, I used parenthetical citations, and I followed the correct MLA format. __ I used correct and complete information on my works cited page, the last page of my paper. I have an entry for every source that I used in my paper (three minimum). I do not have any sources listed that I did not cite within the paper. __ I quoted material exactly. I used handouts and the PowerPoint that explain how to use brackets and ellipses if I needed them. (Continued on Back) Style/Audience ___I used a consistent, formal tone throughout the paper. I used formal language and avoided first and second-person pronouns. I avoided contractions. ___My sentences are clear, concise, and coherent. I used active voice. ___I used precise diction but avoided using complicated, elevated diction that make my sentences unclear. ___I used a variety of sentence lengths, structures, and beginnings.

Punctuation / Grammar / Conventions __ I used correct format for the paper (heading, headers, spacing, margins, font, etc.) My works cited page is the last page of my research paper and is numbered as such. __ I proofread carefully and had at least two other people proofread my paper for correct punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. __ I proofread carefully and had at least two other people proofread my paper for clarity in sentence structure. My readers were able to understand all the ideas in my paper.

Integrity Statement By signing below, I confirm that the only Internet sources that I used for the content of this paper were Gale Net and/or Galileo unless Mrs. Owen made an exception and signed my printout of the source as approval. I have given credit to all the sources in parenthetical citations and on the works cited page. I understand that taking ideas from the Internet without giving the source credit is plagiarism. I understand that if I commit plagiarism on any part of my paper, I will make a zero for the entire assignment, and I will be referred to the office for discipline.
