Frequently Asked Questions- Q- When do I send in my Breeding Agreement? A- Breedings may be limited, so be sure and send in your Breeding Agreement as soon as possible to guarantee your mare will be on the List to be bred to the stallion of your choice.

Q- How much money do I have to pay right now to guarantee my mare is on the list? A- The Deposit ($250.) is due with the agreement, and reserves a spot on the list for your mare. This deposit is also often referred to as a “Booking Fee”. The Deposit applies toward the stud fee. The Balance of the stud fee is due before semen is shipped. Payments toward Stud Fee can be made up until the time Semen is ordered/shipped. If Mare owner received a Multiple Mare Discount… all Stallion Fees must be paid prior to first semen shipment.

Q- I’m pretty sure I have picked the stallion I want to breed to…. But I’m planning far in advance of Breeding Season… ….What if I change my mind? Can I switch stallions? A- Yes…. If you send in your breeding agreement early or circumstances change before Breeding your mare…. Contact the Stallion Owner, and at her discretion, she will usually allow any fees paid to be Transferred to a different approved ranch- owned stallion standing at Bedonna’s Stallion Station.

Q- My mare is not registered. Can I still breed to one of your stallions? A- Yes, we do accept unregistered mares, or mares whose papers have been lost. A Mare Identification Page must be Completed for all Unregistered Mares. Mare must be approved, and not all stallions will fit this category, but most of our stallions are available for unregistered Mares and Pony Mares. Information and Photos of mare may be required. Inseminations of Grade/Unregistered mares and pony mares must be done by a Vet.

Q- If my mare does not get pregnant the first cycle, can I try again? A- Yes, if your mare does not get pregnant with the first semen shipment, we can breed her again on her next cycle. This is also why it is important to ultrasound your mare at 14 to 18 days, and confirm she is pregnant. If she is Not, then there is time to quickly plan for the next cycle, and Not Miss it. **Mares typically Ovulate every 18 to 25 days during the normal breeding season (average is 21 days). We have a limited number of cycles during the Breeding Season.

Q- Why is the Live Foal Guarantee Void if my mare conceived multiple embryos that are both developing? A- Mares are designed to carry only one foal. If a mare conceives two or more pregnancies... and the pregnancy proceed past approx. 30 days… there is a risk they will ALL Fail in pregnancy, but if multiple fetus pregnancies continue several months… it may also cause permanent harm or death to the mare. Standard Equine Vet Medicine recommends to Avoid Multiple Pregnancies. Ask your VET or Stallion Owner for more information on this subject.

Q- Why do I have to buy or return the container? A- These Containers are specially designed to hold and insulate syringes or ‘plastic bags’ containing semen. They have a special “Ice-Brick” that fits inside to cool and maintain the temperature for semen transport. The Ice-Bricks can be re-frozen, and the containers re-used. When SO many items are thrown away …. We can do our part and RE-USE these containers many times, and keep them from becoming trash. If you Borrow a container from the farm… Return it, and we will reuse it many times. If you decide to purchase a container… Please re-use it, give it to someone who can use it, or donate it your Vet, a College, etc. To purchase a new container costs around $50. Used Containers may also be available at a cost of $35.

Q- How many Breeding Doses come with the shipment? A- One or Two Doses of semen will be sent with each order depending on demand and total numbers of sperm available on a given collection day. Orders are Filled in the Order they Are Received…. So the Vets or Owners that call first, and request 2 doses, are most likely to get 2 Doses, and ‘last-minute’ orders may only get One if supply is limited that day. Stallion Manager has final say as to how the available doses will be distributed. Semen is shipped in syringes, or ‘whirl’ bags.

Q- Do you offer any discounts? A- Yes. Discounts are often offered for Multiple Mares (The more mares you/or a group of family/friends breed, the bigger discounts per mare may be given.) Multiple Mare discounts often require fees to be paid in full, before semen is collected for 1st mare, to receive the discounts. We also often offer discounts to Mare owners with “Pony” mares breeding to full sized stallions, and mare owners breeding AQHA and APHA mares to our Pony Stallions. Discounts are often given for Returning Customers, or for “Daughter’s Of…” specific stallions. We also offer Discounts for Active and Retired USA MILITARY service men and women. Discounts are handled private treaty on a Case-by-Case basis. Contact Bedonna at 580-471-4040 to discuss any questions you have, or with help selecting the BEST Match for your mare.
