Projects / Activities of Note

 Jefferson House Project Completed – The historic home operated by the Community Ministries of Rockville serves as transitional housing for 8 formerly homeless men. The home’s two bathrooms recently received a complete makeover with HBCF assistance.

 Becky’s House- The home for 8 elderly homeless women in Rockville will be receiving key upgrades. The scope of work will need to be redeveloped after some flood-related basement repairs are completed. Winchester Homes will take lead.  Marian House – HBCF has pledged $100K in cash and in-kind assistance to help Marian House with the renovation of a former rectory and convent. The Baltimore nonprofit will house homeless women and families in the properties – creating 20 new housing units. A former school is also being transformed.

 Patriot Point –Patriot Point serves as a retreat center for injured veterans. The group would like to build a new lodge in order to serve/ house more wounded, ill, and injured veterans and their families. Meetings to discuss how HBCF could potentially get involved have already begun.

 The Franciscan Center – Thank you to BB&T Bank members who recently helped with the handsome refurbishment of the Barber Shop/Adult Education Room at the Franciscan Center. The FC provides emergency assistance and supportive outreach to persons who are economically disadvantaged in the city.

 Champ House – a special tour of the Bowie facility with the Lt. Governor took place in late September. Since HBCF repaired the roof last year, a team from Bozzuto Homes, led by Jeff Cellio, has been working to transform the house by doing a tremendous amount of exterior renovations at the recovery program. Champ House recently received a new $50K grant from the state for interior renovation work. Bozzuto is helping create a scope of work for the use of funds.

 Toy Drive for Sarah’s House at Fort Meade. Please bring your donation of NEW unwrapped gift (with tags) to one of MBIA’s Holiday Events in December. Collected toys will be donated for distribution to homeless families at Sarah’s House, a supportive housing program offering emergency shelter and project-based supportive housing with an array of other services for families experiencing homelessness in Anne Arundel County.
