Carteret Community Foundation announces 2015 scholarship opportunities For immediate release – Jan. 22, 2015 The Carteret Community Foundation (CCF) is pleased to announce that applications to apply for scholarships will be available online at the North Carolina Community Foundation’s website at www.nccommunityfoundation.org/scholarships beginning in early February. “The Carteret Community Foundation has been supporting local students and nonprofits for many years,” said Richard McIntyre president CCF board. “Since 2005, the Foundation’s scholarships have awarded more than $115,000 to Carteret County high school students.” McIntyre encouraged area students and their parents to visit NCCF’s website to check out all the scholarships available. “These awards are specific to Carteret County, but there are a number of statewide scholarships that might also be of interest,” he said. McIntyre also praised local donors for their generosity in establishing these scholarships. “These donors understand that our children are our future, and if we invest in their education, we will all reap the rewards,” he said. “We invite anyone who might be interested in establishing a scholarship fund in Carteret County to contact us.” Carteret County Foundation Scholarship opportunities for 2015 include:  The Carteret Retired School Personnel Association Scholarship is a merit-based award, for students in pursuit of a degree in education.  The Carteret Retired School Personnel Association also offers the Geraldine Mayo Beveridge Scholarship, a merit-based award for students pursuing a degree in vocational education.  The Carteret County Association of Homebuilders Murdoch Scholarship is a renewable award for a student seeking a post-secondary degree from a two- or four-year institution in the construction trades.  The V.J. “Puck” & Pearl O’Neal Scholarship Fund offers awards to students seeking a - MORE - Page 2 of 3 degree in either marine sciences or Christian studies.  The Joseph H. Tallman Scholarships in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Endowment was established in 2001 with the purpose of assisting Carteret County public high school students who wish to pursue a degree in either mechanical or electrical engineering at an accredited four-year college or university.  Edward S. Dixon Scholarship Endowment is a renewable award for Carteret students who will enroll full time in an institution of higher learning; show academic achievement; and demonstrate involvement in the community through participation in groups organized to promote charitable and developmental activities. Additional information is available from Carteret County high school guidance counselors and online. The application deadline for most of the awards is in March.
