The School Guidance Department
Moorefield High School, a non-Title I school, is located Mr. Christopher Adams, in rural Moorefield, West Virginia. Moorefield High School Guidance Counselor 9-12. opened in 1940 and was dedicated by Eleanor Roosevelt. The school serves 9th through 12th grades, with the average class size being up to 30 students for an approximate total of 420 students. In May of 2012, the voters of Hardy County voted yes to a school bond, and Moorefield High School was rebuilt on the same site. This process was completed in 2015, and it allows the students and staff of Moorefield to attend a 21st century facility.
The Community
Hardy County is a rural county with a total population of 14,025 people according to the 2010 census, which is a 10.7% Grading System increase from the 2000 census. The population of Hardy County is mostly White/Caucasian at 93.8%, but that number drops A—93-100 significantly to 79% in Moorefield. Compared to Hardy County B—85-92 overall, Moorefield has a higher percentage of ethnic diversity. C—75-84 The county population also includes 3.4% being Hispanic, 2.5% D—65-74 being Black, 1% being Asian, and .2% being American Indian. F—Below 65 Those numbers rise for the town of Moorefield as the Hispanic population is 11%, the Black population is 8.6%, and the Asian Grade Point Average population is 4.7%. Total student enrollment is approximately 400 with 87% of the student population being White/Caucasian. All subjects, grades 9-12 are included. The student population also includes 5% Hispanic, 6% Regular courses: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1. Black, 1% Asian, and 1% American Indian. AP courses are the only courses weighted at MHS. Advanced Placement Courses Class Rank (If sufficient enrollment): AP Literature, AP Language, AP Calculus, AP Biology, Official class rank for seniors is determined AP Chemistry, AP History and AP Government. during the 2nd semester of their senior year, after the 3rd nine weeks and again at final grades. Business Partners Clubs
The following companies are business partners of Clubs include: Student council, NHS, FFA, Moorefield High School: American Woodmark Corporation, FCCLA, Envirothon, Spanish Club, and Pilgrim’s Pride, Pendleton Community Bank, and Walmart. Math club.
Co-curricular groups include: chorus, Interscholastic Sports marching band, concert band, theatre, and newspaper. Moorefield High School is a member of the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission School Honors and is classified as an “A” school. Athletically, Moorefield High School has Sports offered: Football, Golf, Volleyball, been very competitive at the local and state Cheerleading, Wresting, Girls Basketball, levels bringing home championships Boys Basketball, Tennis, Boys and Girls in many sports. Track, Baseball and Softball. Moorefield High School also boots an Student Involvement Envirothon team that has placed 1st and 2nd overall in the state competition, with those Moorefield High School encourages participation in students receiving scholarship money. clubs, co-curricular activities, and sports to enhance the development of skills, cooperation and leadership. Moorefield High School FCCLA team has grown over the years. This year, three Special Services students received an event medal at the A school nurse and psychologist are available as national conference. MHS brought back a needed. Services for special learning needs are available gold and two bronze medals.
