HAUPPAUGE PUBLIC SCHOOLS OFFICE OF SOCIAL STUDIES HAUPPAUGE HIGH SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT GUIDELINES AP Government and Politics Economics Participation in Government

Requirements:  For students enrolled in Participation in Government and Economics 10 hours of community service is required for each course (total of 20 hours)  For students enrolled in AP Government and Politics 20 hours of community service is required  Community Service Log  Project  Presentation  Written Reflection

Approved Community Service Hours: The Community Service hours maybe taken from a variety of activities that are offered in and out of school. Students who are involved in clubs and activities that require community service such as: honor societies, SOAR, Interact etc. must acquire additional hours to complete this project.

Community Service Log: A completed departmental community service log must be submitted to your teacher on the project due date. Students must take pictures of themselves performing the community service.

Projects:  Photo Journal (should contain at least 5 entries with captions)  PowerPoint (should contain at least 5 slides with captions on each slide) *A hard copy of the presentation must be handed in if you choose this option  Brochure  Exhibit Board/Poster (should be oak tag/presentation size)  Documentary (10 minutes maximum)  Other project approved by the teacher

Presentation: In a maximum of 10 minutes, each student will present his/her project to their class.

Reflection: Each student will write a one page typed (12 font Times New Roman) reflection on the community service he/she engaged in and its impact on the student and or the community. *Questions for reflection are attached Hauppauge Public Schools Department of Social Studies Hauppauge High School
