BPS Wellness Action Plan Instructions and Template Due June 29, 2012

Create a Login (if you do not already have one) 1. Visit www.HealthierGeneration.org/ 2. Click At School on the top left of the blue bar 3. Click Join now or Log In in the light blue box on the right 4. Click Join us Today or Log In in the blue box in the center of the page 5. Complete the requested information 6. A confirmation email will be sent to the registered address 7. Click the link in the confirmation email to complete registration

Forgot Password 1. Click the Forgot Password link on the sign-in page. After you enter your email address and click Send Link, you will receive an email with a link to reset your password. 2. Click the link, type in the password you wish to use and click Save New Password.

Add School and Become School Leader (skip if you are already School Leader) 1. After logging in, click My Dashboard 2. Click the Search or Add Schools tab and use one or more of the search criteria to find school 3. Click View School Profile/Start School’s Team, scroll to the bottom and click Join School’s Team 4. Click View School Profile, scroll to bottom of page and click Become a School Leader

Complete the Inventory by March 23, 2012 1. Log into www.HealthierGeneration.org (click At School) 2. Click 6 Step Process > Evaluate Your School. Click the orange tab: School Inventory 3. After answering each page’s questions, click Save and Next at the bottom to move to next page 4. When all questions have been answered Yes or No, click Full Status at the bottom of the last 5. page or in the row of orange tabs at the top 6. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Submit New (or First) Inventory 7. An Inventory must be submitted before an Action Plan can be started

Select your Wellness Action Steps 1. Log into www.HealthierGeneration.org (click At School) 2. Click 6 Step Process > Create an Action Plan. Click the orange tab: Create Action Plan 3. On this page, items are added to the Action Plan:  After the Inventory is submitted, all items with No answers are automatically listed on the Create Action Plan page.  To display a smaller list of items, use the filters on the right to determine which Action Items to display. 4. To add an item to the Action Plan, click the Add to Action Plan button. Schools are recommended to select between 3-5 criterion or goals for their Wellness Action Plan. 5. Noted next to each Action Item is whether it is needed for Bronze, Silver and/or Gold

View and Print your Wellness Action Steps 1. Click 6 Step Process > Take Action. Click the orange tab: Action Plan 2. This page lists each Healthy Schools Framework criterion that your school has selected for your plan. 3. Under each criterion, click View tips, resources, and evidence requirements to visit the Action Item Detail page. 4. Click the Print button at the top of the Action Item Detail page for a copy of the criterion selected, recommended action steps and downloadable resources. Print off the Action Item Detail pages for each criterion you have selected.

Complete your BPS Wellness Action Planning Chart 1. Fill out your BPS Wellness Action Planning Chart (by using your printed Action Item Detail referenced in step 4 above, or copy and paste from the webpage. Also include action steps to be taken, leadership assigned, timeline for implementation and resources needed/available. The Action Item Detail pages from the website will be helpful for completing your plan. 2. Keep in mind the BPS Health and Wellness priorities of healthful competitive foods promotion and education, physical activity during the school day with physical education as a cornerstone of physical activity, and health education. Check off which priorities are met in the right-hand column. 3. Schools may include any other school-based wellness initiatives at the bottom of the Action planning Chart. For example, please have a clear stated tobacco-prevention related Goal and relevant Action Steps. 4. Complete your Wellness Council Roster. 5. Send a copy of your completed Wellness Action Plan to Caitlin Westfall [email protected] and attach a copy as an addendum to your Whole School Improvement Plan.

View/Edit Criteria Selected for your Action Plan 1. Click 6 Step Process > Take Action. Click the orange tab: Take Action 2. This page lists each Healthy Schools Framework criterion that your school has selected for your plan. On this page members may:  Print the criteria selected  Mark items complete/incomplete  Remove items from the Action Plan list  Assign Action Items to a team member (if the team member has an account)  View tips, resources, and evidence requirements 3. When an item is marked Complete the Inventory answer is automatically updated to Yes 4. Action Items may be added to or removed from the Action Plan at any time via the Create Action Plan page
