JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY: This position is primarily responsible for annual district grounds keeping duties and equipment repairs. Other responsibilities include managing the district grounds daily operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform maintenance and operational tasks. Responsible for routine guidance of the maintenance/operational grounds employees as well as other custodial staff members assigned to the department. Responsible for making sure the grounds operations operate smoothly and that the assigned work is completed. Also responsible for communicating any special daily needs with the athletic department. . I. Primary Tasks:

A. Maintain district grounds and associated duties.

B. Responsible for the day to day oversight of the district’s groundskeepers, along with all associated temporary seasonal employees.

C. Provides leadership and coordinates efforts of the site and the custodial staff and makes related recommendations, assigning priorities to work as required.

D. Diagnoses mechanical problems: repairs and rebuilds commercial mowers, saws, small engine equipment, and vehicle components, etc.

E. Diagnoses problems and repairs rolling stock such as mowing tractors, skid loaders, snow removal equipment, salt spreaders, etc.

F. Diagnoses problems with brakes, transmissions, rear-ends, clutches, hydraulic systems, valves, pumps and electrical systems. Head Groundskeeper/Mechanic Page 2 G. Performs general knowledge repairs on brakes, hydraulic systems and electrical systems.

H. Performs tune-ups on district vehicles routinely as needed.

I. Welds equipment as needed.

J. Prepares shop work orders on equipment repair.

K. Ordering parts as needed to maintain stock: picks up parts.

L. Checks and schedules work with other district departments.

M. Cleans shop, storage area and parts room.

N. Operate snow equipment as needed.

III. Secondary Responsibilities:

A. Fundamental painting skills

B. Working knowledge of all equipment and service systems in the district

D. Drive a personal or District vehicle to deliver or pick-up materials, etc. (A valid driver’s license and successful driving record background check would be required in order to drive for school-related business. Employees who do not meet this requirement will not be qualified for this position.)

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

a. High school graduate or beyond. b. Experience of maintenance and repairs to small engines and vehicles. c. An understanding of proper standards for cleanliness, maintenance and safety of public facilities. d. Prior experience recommended.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Technical Skills: The individual must possess the following:

a. Knowledge of proper maintenance procedures. b. Skills necessary to operate such equipment as snow plows, skid loader, lawn mowers etc. c. The capability to learn the job easily and comprehend all training procedures. d. Fundamental knowledge of welding equipment, its uses and applications. e. Ability to use technology: Internet, email, voicemail to organize and manage work orders and assigned duties.

Organizational Skills: The individual must possess the following:

a. Ability to organize time: i.e., be able to work on one-time-only tasks as well as ongoing tasks, while at the same time handling interruptions, etc. b. Ability to establish priorities: i.e., recognize tasks that need to be done and do them without supervision and anticipate the needs and requirements the Manager of Buildings and Grounds. c. Ability to organize materials and maintain an efficient work schedule. d. Ability to be a self-starter who does not need constant direction from their supervisor. e. Ability to tolerate and work in pressure situations during which large volumes of work must be accomplished in a short period of time, sometimes without a clear delineation of priorities.
