DOCTORAL PROGRAMS COMMITTEE
March 17, 2010
Meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. All members were in attendance.
Geoff Booth reported the following:
According to Dean Karen Klomparens’ letter of March 1, 2010 the preliminary 2010 – 11 allocation of GOF funds to the Broad School is $205,000, of which $136,667 is dedicated to our doctoral students. These funds are to be used for the fall 2010, spring 2011 and summer 2011 semesters.
At our March 13 DPC meeting we unanimously agreed to the following distribution policy. Approximately 90% of GOF funds for the next year will be allocated in the spring on a per capita basis using the spring doctoral student enrollment for each department. The remainder of the funds will be distributed in a like manner once the final allocation is known. It is up to the department to decide the internal allocation of funds to its students.
Applying this protocol to our 2010 – 2011 allocation results in the following distribution with the number in parentheses denoting the number of students:
AIS: $35,150 (19)
FIN: $12,950 (7)
SCM: $18,500 (10)
MKT: $22,200 (12)
MGT: $33,300 (18)
The above represents the allocation of $122,100 (89.34% of the total) to 66 doctoral students, which is the equivalent of $1,850 per student.
Please work with Patty to handle all of the paperwork associated with this allocation.
Assurance of Learning data was reviewed…adding the Carnegie placement type.
Approved the following course changes:
SCM 916, 917, 999; FI 993 and ITM.
(the two courses are resource neutral. Also, SCM 916 is significantly different from MGT 914 and MKT 941. MGT 914 focuses mostly on regression based methods and MKT 941 is research methods in International Business. SCM 916 focuses on a variety of statistical methods and more importantly on the theory and mathematical foundation of the methods. It also focuses more on the specific type of methodologies utilized in SCM research.)
