GREENWICH POLICE DEPARTMENT CRACKS DOWN ON DRUNK DRIVING

(Greenwich, CT.) – As part of a Statewide Holiday DUI grant from the Connecticut Department of Transportation Division of Highway Safety, the Greenwich Police Department has completed the grant enforcement period. The holiday grant enforcement effort was conducted from November 23, 2005 and was completed on January 14, 2006. Twenty-One (21) nights had the additional enforcement patrols and three (3) nights had sobriety checkpoints conducted in addition to the patrols. The state grant paid for the overtime wages for extra police personnel required to staff the details. The effort resulted in 16 DUI arrests, 226 citations, and 180 warnings tickets being issued. For the year 2005 the Greenwich Police Department made 231 DUI arrests, which is the most DUI arrests made in one calendar year as a Department. Special recognition should go to P/O Joseph Rondini who had the single most DUI arrests for officers with 39 for the year 2005.
