December 2010

60secondsdance.dk is co-production of Dansens Dage and Screen Moves, Copenhagen, Denmark. This online screendance competition, hosted on http://www.60secondsdance.dk is funded by Dansens Dage and Nordea-fonden, aims to give screendance makers the opportunity to produce, through their lens, a one-minute online screendance video.

The top ten outstanding videos, including the winner and runner up will have their work screened at the Cinemateque at the DFI (Danish Film Institute), on DR K (Danish National Broadcasting TV Culture Channel), various online dance related sites, on a DVD for international distribution to Screendance Festivals, Dance Houses, CPH PIX, Embassies as well as on monitors in the Asta Bar foyer at the DFI and in the Dansehallerne Foyer. Jeannette Ginslov, associate producer of www.dance-tech.net will also interview the winner and runner up via skype, for MoveStream, an online channel dedicated to screendance interviews. All the videos are uploaded and archived on http://www.60secondsdance.dk. Favorites and regular updates will appear on the 60secondsdance.dkYoutube Channel.

For the launch year, 2011, the theme is based on the notion of “place” or “sted”. Screendance makers are invited to choreograph, shoot and edit what “place” or “sted” means to them, whether it be found in their culture, the urban, the rural, the emotional, the physical, the body…in which they live.

Prizes First Prize is €1500 and the runner up €500

Screendance maker’s Criteria The 60secondsdance.dk competition is a response to the influence of commercials, online screendance clips and the increased affordability of camera’s, computers and access to the Internet. The competition format and time limit force the screendance maker to sharpen his/her camera and editing skills, in order to capture and amplify the notion of “place” or “sted”, as well as demonstrate the ability to work with social media and the notion of DIY.

We challenge the screendance maker to show in 60 seconds what “place” or “sted” means to them and relay this to the viewer, who needs to understand and “get it” immediately. The limited time frame forces the maker to really think about what “place” or “sted” means. Any form of dance or movement may be used as long as the intention of “place” or “sted” is amplified through the movement and the digital media used to do this. Not only will the choreography of the movement be judged but the moving camera, the shots, the rhythm of the edit, location, sets, objects, costume, emotions, overall aesthetic “look and feel”, will also be taken into account by the judges.

All music rights must be cleared before submission. We urge you to use original music and/or the diegetic sound, from the shoot and environment. Any camera may be used, including cell phones, as long as the uploaded version complies with 60secondsdance.dk delivery requirements.

All contestants must upload their videos to http://www.60secondsdance.dk and fulfill all the requirements on time, set out in the application forms. Delivery and upload instructions, entrant’s contracts and performer’s release forms are also available at http://www.60secondsdance.dk

The final ten will then be asked to send a high quality version of their work to us and to DR K. They will be notified what formats are required.
