In the second half Dillon would only score 32 six points, too few to take the title; and 33 34 Whereas, with the Panthers trailing 27-24 at the beginning of the 35 fourth quarter, Chapman’s Carlos Montalvo-Corrales delivered a 36 punt inside the Dillon one-yard line. On the next play, Panther 37 Zach Johnson tackled Dillon’s ball carrier in the end zone for a 38 safety, narrowing the score to 27-26; and 39 40 Whereas, Montalvo-Corrales made a field goal with less than ten 41 minutes remaining in the championship game, ending the scoring 42 for both teams and securing the Panthers’ 29-27 win; and

[3425] 2 1 2 Whereas, Chapman quarterback Colton Bailey completed twelve 3 of twenty passes for 179 yards while teammate D. J. Twitty rushed 4 forty-four times for 202 yards; and 5 6 Whereas, Panther Patrick Phongsat, who missed the previous two 7 games due to a knee injury, caught six passes for 96 yards and a 8 touchdown, and Richard Tucker caught five passes for 79 yards. 9 Chapman defensive standout Anthony Brown had a team-high 10 thirteen tackles, including two for a Dillon loss; and 11 12 Whereas, in a sport that demands strength, expertise, and 13 determination, Head Coach Mark Hodge and his skilled coaching 14 staff capitalized on their own athletic ability and training to forge a 15 championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that 16 will prove invaluable through life both on and off the gridiron; and 17 18 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 19 Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the 20 Chapman football players have brought to their school and their 21 community and look to hear of their continued achievements in the 22 days ahead. Now, therefore, 23 24 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 25 26 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 27 by this resolution, recognize and honor the Chapman High School 28 varsity football team, coaches, and school officials for an 29 extraordinary season and congratulate them for winning the 2016 30 South Carolina Class AAA State Championship title. 31 32 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 33 Principal Ty Dawkins and Coach Mark Hodge. 34 XX 35
