Critical health and Unit 24538, Demonstrate knowledge of tractor stability and the safety prerequisites dynamics of tractors and attached implements; and Unit 24552, Check and drive a basic wheel tractor with an attached implement on flat terrain; or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills.

Explanatory notes

1 Assessment During assessment, manufacturer’s recommendations and legislative requirements for the minimum age of a person driving a tractor must be complied with.

Tractors must be over 1000kg and have a 3 point linkage.

Assessment should consider the candidate’s attitude and behaviour while operating a tractor. Attitude and behaviour is defined as a willingness to comply with, and consistent awareness of, safety requirements and workplace procedures. Examples include; wearing appropriate footwear, operating the vehicle in a manner which minimises risk to self and others, avoiding ‘no-go’ areas, not carrying passengers, and following instructions regarding care and maintenance of vehicles.

Drive a tractor with an attached implement on hilly terrain.

Evidence requirements

1.1 Tractor with attached implement is operated in a manner which suits the terrain, ground conditions, and implement in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.

1.2 The gear selected prior to each manoeuvre is suitable for the terrain and ground conditions.

Range ground conditions include at least one of – wet and greasy surface, cultivated land, green and lush pasture, hard ground with heavy dew.

1.3 Tractor controls are used in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.

1.4 The tractor and attached implement are driven at speeds appropriate to the conditions, and risk of damage to self, others, property, and ground surfaces is minimised.
