Kindergarten Families

Kindergarten Families,

Tuesday, August 23, 5:30-7pm: Central Open House Thursday, August 25, 9:00-10:30am: Kindergarten information meeting – parent (or respresentative) and child Friday, August 26: First full day of school for kindergartners

Welcome to Central Elementary! My name is Mrs. Pauldine and I will be your child’s kindergarten teacher. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in Early Childhood and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. This is my fifth year at Central Elementary. Previously, I worked at the University of Michigan-Flint Early Childhood Development Center where I taught preschool and then moved on to teach in the Mt. Morris school district.

I live in Flushing with my husband (Matt), 7 year old daughter (Dylan), 5 year old son (Donovan) and our dog Madison (when she is not sleeping over at grandma and grandpa’s house). We enjoy going to our family cabin at Hubbard Lake and spending time together. Two years ago my daughter was in my class and this year I am excited to have the opportunity to have my son in my class. I spend most of my free time running my kids around and researching / reflecting ways to improve my teaching. Hobby? ?

I am passionate about working with children and sharing in the learning process with them as I am able to learn from them just as they learn from me. I feel it is very important to give children opportunities where they have the chance to expand their learning. I work hard to create an environment where they feel comfortable and have materials to do this. I think learning should be a collaboration between families, teachers and children. I believe kindergarten is a place where children come together and learn appropriate social skills, resiliency, self control, how to make friends and most important I hope they leave my room this year loving to learn.

During our school-wide open house on Tuesday, August 23, from 5:30-7pm you and your child will get to come and meet me and see their NEW classroom. On Thursday, August 25, you and your kindergarten child will come to school together from 9:00-10:30am for our kindergarten information meeting. I will meet with you while your child spends time with some of our Central staff learning about our library, lunch routines and school expectations. On that day we will discuss things such as the daily schedule, curriculum, homework, field trips, family meetings, etc. If you are unable to attend, please send someone in your place. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 810-210-1578.

** HERE ARE A FEW THINGS YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW AHEAD OF TIME…**

SNACK: The children will have the opportunity to have a snack (possibly two) during the day. You will be responsible for providing a “healthy” snack for your child. Please let me know if you need any assistance in getting this for your child. SUPPLIES: If you have been to the store lately you know there are school supplies everywhere! If you are wondering / worried about what you must purchace for school supplies, don’t! The three things your child should have are a large backpack, tennis shoes (for gym class) and a reusable water bottle. If you need assistance in getting these just let me know. On the other hand if you cannot resist, I have created a list of “wants” (in no particular order) that we can always use. Keep in mind, we share supplies within the classroom so students DO NOT need individual sets of items.

 Colored pencils  Post-It notes (pop-up notes)  Dry erase markers  Magic erasers  Bottles of glue  Washable markers  Sharpies  Glue sticks  Scissors  Band-Aids  Masking Tape – LOTS!  Baby wipes  Clorox or Lysol wipes  Absorbent paper towel  Hand sanitizer  Old towels and rags  Gallon, Quart, & Sandwich size Ziplocks

You can bring them with you to the open house or send them in anytime throughout the year.

Other materials I really enjoy having in our room for the children to use are materials such as:

 Wire  Craft sticks  Feathers  Beads and buttons  Costume jewelry  Wood scraps  Broken jewelry  Clear or transparent containers  Tape  Cardboard Pieces  String  Old keys  Ribbon and yarn  Leather remnants  Screws, nuts, bolts  Nails  Scrap material  Newspaper  Empty Kleenex boxes  Toilet paper / paper towel rolls  Small machines that don’t work (for example:  Cotton balls clocks, watches, dvd players)  Almost anyting recyclable   Golf tees

I will strive to make this year an excellent experience for you and your child. If you have any questions I can be reached at [email protected] or 810-210-1578. Using a QR Reader (I use QR Scanner) scan the code below to hear a message from me! See you soon!
