INSTRUCTIONS FOR RECRUITING BLOOD DONORS 1. In this packet of information, you will find information on the Carolina Blood Drive to be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Smith Center from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. This packet contains an Appointment Schedule and Follow-up Worksheet to be used to record your donor’s name, PID number, e-mail address, appointment time, and phone number. Please make additional copies of forms as needed.

2. It is extremely important that, as you fill time slots, you record the required information on the attached schedule to use for making donor appointments on the Blood Line and also as a reminder tool for you and donors right before the Blood Drive occurs. Since a master schedule on almost 1,300 slots is being created centrally, it will help greatly to receive your booked appointments daily rather than in one or two installments (call 96-BLOOD (2-5663) or use the e-mailable form at www.unc.edu/blood/ to schedule appointments).

3. The appointments will be in 15 minute intervals; for example, if a donor would like to donate blood between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m., a representative on the Blood Line will schedule a donor appointment for either 2:00, 2:15, 2:30, or 2:45. Ask donors specifically when they would like to make an appointment and the representative will try and accommodate the request to within 15 minutes of the time requested.

4. If donors have questions regarding deferral, please refer them to either the Carolina Blood Drive Website www.unc.edu/blood/.

5. When you sign up a donor, give them one of the “I pledged” stickers and an appointment card to both thank them and to recognize their life-saving contribution.

6. Use the Appointment Schedule and Follow-up Worksheet to call or send email to all of your donors on June 2nd to remind them of their appointment time and the importance of arriving promptly. Remind your donors to eat and drink something before showing up at the Smith Center to donate blood.

7. There are recruiter prizes that can be earned on the point system below. For the recruiting contest, recruiters will only receive credit for those donors who actually show up at the blood collection site and are willing to donate. The recruiter will still receive credit for those people who are not able to donate due to a medical hindrance. Recruiters will also receive points for volunteers. First time donors will receive special thank you gifts from the American Red Cross. All donors and volunteers will receive commemorative 20th anniversary t-shirts and an opportunity to register for one of two $750 gas card giveaways sponsored by the Carolina Regions of the American Red Cross.

8. Appointments can be made beginning 12pm on April 24th. Recruiters will get points according to the following schedule: Attendance at Kick-Off 25 points Donors recruited between April 24th – June 3rd 3 points 10 donors signed up by May 15th Free T-shirt to wear on June 3 Volunteers 1 point

The donors you recruit must show up the day of the Blood Drive and be willing to donate, otherwise you will not receive points for that donor.
