THEME: Kangaroos SUBTHEME: Promise

5:50: COMING IN ACTIVITY: Kangaroo name tag to decorate

6:00: OPENING CEREMONY: 6:05: Game: Catch the Roos Stuck in the mud version. Joeys in free formation. One is chosen to be the “ranger” catching the roos which have escaped from the National Park. If caught the Joey stands with his paws up until another Joey hops around him. He is then free to continue jumping around.

6:10: Game: Kangaroo relay Divide the group into four teams and have Joeys line up, one behind the other. Place a chair about three metres in front of each team. The first Joeys place a ball between their knees, hop around the chair, and return to tag the next Joeys in line. Joeys may touch the ball with their hands to pass it to the next Joeys or to pick it up when dropped, but they cannot move while touching the ball with their hands. The first team to send every member around the chair and back is the winner.

6:15: Game: Kangaroo Tails Each Joey has five pegs on the back of their shirt, which are their kangaroo tails. On the word go, kangaroo’s must jump around and try to take one tail (peg) at a time from the other kangaroo’s, and put it on their own back. Once a kangaroo loses all their tails they must sit out. The kangaroo with the most tails at the end of five minutes wins. Rules – one tail at a time, no running, pushing, or ganging up on kangaroo.

6:20: Craft: 'Good Deed' Kangaroos

Tail-less' Kangaroos printed onto cardboard, scissors, hole punch, wool or string, cup, paddle pop stick, glue, colouring pencils. Joeys decorate kangaroo as above and attach to paper cup. Punch a hole through the base of the cup where the tail should join the body. Attach the string to the Kangaroo for its tail. Each week as the Joey Scouts tell of good deeds they have done or when they show themselves to be true Joey Scouts by examples of caring sharing good manners and helpfulness during Mob meetings, get them to tie a knot in the tail of their 'Good Deed Roo'. This gives the Joey Scouts a visual reminder, a source of pride in their behavior and allows them to exercise fine motor skills in knot tying. Early finishers Game: Where’s the Kangaroo: Joeys seated in a circle. One Joey in the centre with eyes closed. Joeys pass the kangaroo around the circle. When Leaders says stop they hold it behind their back. The Joey in the centre points at who they think has it.

6:40: Story: Kangaroos (During story add jelly baby to the pouch)

6:45: Activity: I Promise Talk about what it means when you Promise to do something. How do you feel if someone promises to do something and they don’t? What could you promise to do? What does Do My Best mean? How can you? Joeys (with the help of a Leader) write down one thing they will promise to do by next week. Place in envelope and give to the Joeys to take home. Ask parents to see if the Joey has kept their promise.
