Role Purpose

1. To work with the School of Media Arts on the development and delivery of support for Māori and Pasifika learners. 2. To ensure key student processes and policies are complied with.

Employment Details

Location The appointee will be based at Hamilton City campus but may be required to work at other sites.

Remuneration $44,900 - $58,900 per annum

Accountable for Successful when

Customer Service Proactively seek out at-risk cohorts of Māori and Pasifika learners Identify learning support needs for students and arrange appropriate action. Support students to improve issues affecting their academic success at Wintec. Work with current Wintec processes to provide assistance for students who require support. Assist current students to link with appropriate internal and external support. Ensure students requiring assistance receive relevant information and support. Ensure students and Wintec staff have increased awareness of student support and services and how to effectively refer students to support. Collaborate and communicate across departments as required to support students towards achievement. Develop and maintain effective relationships with and on behalf of the Media Arts, Māori Achievement and Te Kete Kōnae team with internal and external customers. Liaise with community networks to access support for referral where appropriate.

Administration Provide support as required to the Media Arts, Māori Achievement and Te Kete Kōnae teams. Provide accurate information in a timely manner. Ensure all student contacts are recorded accurately and timely using approved process. Provide appropriate records and reports as required.

Project Coordination Create and coordinate student success projects and events in conjunction with Head of Media Arts and Student Capability Manager. Promote and support student activities and events.

Competency Specification

Education / training ESSENTIAL A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience PREFERRED/DESIRABLE CAT/CATE or similar tertiary qualification.

Experience ESSENTIAL Proven experience with Māori and Pasifika communities, in particular, youth and adult learners. Proven experience coordinating projects and/or events to completion Knowledgeable practitioner in adult learning philosophies. Experience in teaching literacy, numeracy and study skills with adult learners. PREFERRED/DESIRABLE At least three years work experience within the tertiary education sector.

Typical knowledge, skills and ESSENTIAL attributes Passion for student success. Practical knowledge of Tikanga Māori and cultural values relevant to Māori and Pasifika communities. Excellent research and project management skills. Competent with Microsoft Office Ability to conduct tutorials and workshops Able to exercise judgement in problem solving Innovative and keen to question the status quo and to adapt to changing circumstances. Demonstrated ability to complete tasks on time Commitment to developing independent learners Evidence of sensitivity to and respect for people with disabilities and all cultural and ethnic groups. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.

Flexibility to work both independently, and with others to resolve issues and meet agreed outcomes. PREFERRED/DESIRABLE Fluent in Te Reo Māori. Ability to translate and/or advise on assessments with tutors.
