OBJECTIVES: A.P. Human Geography students will read the book Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser this summer. This book gives background on the incisive development of the American fast food industry. The students will look first at the growth of fast food beginning in California, and look at its impact on the people in the West. In the second part students will look at the products themselves. Where they are manufactured, and what goes into the products, and who is responsible. The students will look at the urban myths surrounding the fast-food industry. The course will look at government’s attempts to regulate the fast food industry. Students should ask themselves, is the true costs of having it “having it your way” really worth it?
