NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

Spotlight on: Franklin Chang Diaz, first Hispanic astronaut (1986)

From Costa Rica, Chang Diaz is a mechanical engineer, physicist and former NASA astronaut. His paternal grandfather, Chinese, fled from the Boxer Rebellion and settled in Costa Rica. Chang-Diaz became an American citizen in 1977. He is currently president and CEO of Ad Astra Rocket

PSAT - The last day to sign up for the PSAT is September 30th. See Ms. Raimann to sign up.

Delivery date for junior class rings is on Monday, October 12th during all 3 lunches. DUAL ENROLLMENT

Attention all students wanting to register for Spring 2016 dual enrollment course at SJR State: Course options will post online Monday, October 5th. You MUST meet with your guidance counselor on October 5th, 6th, or 7th to complete the registration form. All forms are due to Mrs. Maltby by 3pm on Wednesday, October 7th.

HOMECOMING PEP RALLY

Homecoming Pep Rally in the gym on Friday, October 2nd from 2:45 – 3:45. The “price for admission” is Jacket Spirit Wear. Students must be wearing SAHS shirts/sweatshirts to attend. PE gym uniforms do not qualify. The spirit wear must identify the student as a SAHS Yellow Jacket. Any club, sport or school program shirt is acceptable. Homemade shirts are also acceptable as long as they support SAHS and meet the dress code requirements. However, a maroon colored shirt or a gold ribbon in the hair is not acceptable for “price of admission.”

Homecoming tickets are available on line at www.sahs.k12.fl.us. Click on SCHOOL PAY at the bottom of the page and follow the prompts.

FRESHMEN

Any freshman who would like to participate in Homecoming activities please see Ms. Naughton in room E501. There is an activity for everyone! We need students who would like help decorate a shopping cart for the class food drive, we need 6 girls and 6 boys who would like to represent the freshman class in the Homecoming Volleyball Tournament, and we need lots of students to help with homecoming skits: writers, actors, even prop, set and costume designers. So whether you’re athletic, artistic, or just have great school spirit there is something for you. Stop by Ms. Naughton’s room, E501 to sign up now!

FUNDRAISERS

Volleyball

Tuesday, September 29, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. is fundraiser night at Zaxby’s! Come to Zaxby’s and help raise money for SAHS Volleyball just by eating delicious Zaxby’s chicken! 10% of total sales will be donated to the SAHS volleyball team. Location: 1107 N. Ponce De Leon Blvd., St. Augustine.

AVID

All AVID students are selling cookie dough to raise funds for the AVID program! If you love some warm, gooey, yummy cookies, make sure you order some from your AVID students! Support the AVID program.

Ecker Oct 8th 9:20a.m. ECUADOR TRIP

Don’t miss out on this summer’s Ecuador trip. Visit the sights and sounds that was once the center of the Incan Empire. Go whitewater rafting and zip lining, visit the equator, historical breathtaking basilicas, and a Condor birds of prey center, as well as take part in an indigenous homestay all while earning 40 hours of Bright-Future Community Service Hours. To find out how you can be a part of this once in a lifetime trip be sure to attend the information meeting Wednesday, September 30th. See Ms. Naughton in Room E501 or Dean Crespo for meeting time and location.

CLUBS

Regular Club and Activity Meetings:

Fellowship of Christian Athletes – Every Tuesday morning at 8:30 outside the arts hall by the big oak tree.

Key Club – Tuesday mornings, 8:30 am in G620.

Hey! Want to join a fun club? Come to the ASL Club meeting – the last Friday of the month at 8:45 am in B245 (Ms. Hurd). Dues are $8.00

Spanish Club meets every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 4-5:00 p.m. in B-239. You can earn an hour of volunteer service for helping with the Hispanic Heritage Month display.

The Taking a Stand Club meets every Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m. in room B238. Come listen to former bullies and bullied, but don’t feel that you need share yourself. The High Q team is practicing on Mondays in the Media Center from 4-4:30 p.m.

FRENCH CLUB is BACK! The next meeting will be Tuesday, September 29th at 8:30 a.m. in Mrs. Scheffer’s Room on B Hall.

Recycling Club is still looking for anyone willing to help keep St. Augustine green. If you are interested in getting community service hours, then see Mr. Sohn after school in D-413 any and or every Monday to help out.

If you are interested in the Raider Athletics Team, practice will be after school.
