Brief summary of the proposed change.

Change paragraph 4:3 to address the inadequacies of the current AMA rule and bring it more inline with the FAI rule

______

______

______

Exact wording proposed for the rule book. (List paragraph numbers where applicable. Example: Change “quote present rule book wording” to “exact wording required”. Attach additional sheet if needed.

Current:

4:3 Weight and size. No models may weigh more than five (5) kilograms (11) pounds gross, but excluding fuel, ready for

takeoff. Electric models are weighed with batteries. No model may have a wingspan or total length longer than (2) meters

(78.74) inches.

Change To:

4:3 Size and weight of precision aerobatic models

Maximum overall span 2000 mm

Maximum overall length 2000mm

Maximum total weight with batteries 5000g

A tolerance of 1% will be allowed for possible inconsistencies in measurement instruments for size, weight, and voltage

unless otherwise stated. At any event where model specifications are enforced all models eligible to be flown in the finals will be processed before the start of the Finals event. All processing will take place in a controlled environment. One (1) attempt will be allowed.

Failing to meet specifications will result in disqualification. In the event that a competitor is disqualified, the highest placing competitor who did not make the finals will move up to fill that place. If no Finals are to be run, the models will be processed before the start of the event and multiple attempts to meet specifications may be made. It is suggested that at any major event contestants be provided access to the weigh and measure process prior to the start of the event.

______Logic behind proposed change, including alleged shortcomings of the present rules. State intent for future reference.

The current AMA rule does not provide the guidance needed to establish a procedure for model processing at a major event and penalties for not meeting the established requirements. Precision Aerobatic events require processing models for both

AMA and F3A competitors. We are currently using two different sets of rules which is confusing to the competitors and to the people doing the processing. The rule needs to be easy to understand, practical to implement, and the same for all the competitors. This proposal uses the current FAI rule as the standard and clearly states what the rules are, what the penalties are, and the procedure to be followed.
