  • The Bi-Centennial and Diamond Jubilee Memorials
THE ROYAL MEMORIAL CHAPEL THE ROYAL MILITARY ACADEMY SANDHURST The Bi-Centennial and Diamond Jubilee Memorials The Bi-Centennial and Diamond Jubilee Memorials The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst engaged with Bakers of Danbury to replicate the 1947 Order of Battle which was created for the Chapel at the conclusion of the Second World War. These badges can be seen on the ends of the Chapel pews. In order to create a very visible and tangible memorial marking the Bi-Centenary of Officer Training here at Sandhurst and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the vacant panels to the left and right of the entrance to the South Africa Chapel within the Royal Memorial Chapel are now populated by hand-carved and painted cap badges representing every Regiment and Corps of the Army as of 1st January 2012, with a hand carved dedication filled in gold leaf reading across the top of the panels. The significance of placing the badges at the entrance to the South Africa Chapel, the site of the current Roll of Honour, is to remind visitors to the Chapel of the life, service and sacrifice of so many who have served during recent years, marked as they have been by the high tempo of operations, particularly those in Iraq and Afghanistan. Installed below the archway is the Royal Crest, also commemorating the Bi-Centenary and Diamond Jubilee. This was donated by Fr. Ian Evans, Senior Chaplain at the time of installation. This continues a tradition of Chaplains donating to the fabric of the Chapel. The mosaic floor in the South Africa Chapel was donated by The Rev’d William Sykes, and the Aaron window in the SW corner also donated as a memorial to him.
