10 CALL TO ORDER: Chair Boro called the meeting to order at 1:37pm. 11 REVIEW AGENDA: 12 Commissioner Rose added UNESCO World Heritage site nomination update; and Director Calicchio added 2017 Fair Theme Proposal. Cope moved, Bush seconded, and the amended 13 agenda for May 25, 2016 was approved.

14 APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Pollak moved, Bartolini seconded and the minutes of the May 25, 2016 minutes were approved. 15

16 NEW COMMISSIONER: Chair Boro welcomed newly sworn in Commissioner Scott Rowitz, who briefly introduced 17 himself to the Commission.

18 UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE NOMINATION: At the UNESCO conference in Turkey last week, the Marin County Civic Center’s nomination 19 as a World Heritage Site was not confirmed. However, of the three unconfirmed categories: denied, deferred or referred, the Civic Center was referred, meaning that revisions can be made 20 and then be reconsidered in the future. The next application period is February 2017 but it is unlikely that we would be ready to reapply at that time. 21

22 DIRECTOR’S REPORT: Director reported that Fair Director Barboni’s father, Bill Barboni, Sr. passed away on July 26. 23 Flowers were sent to the family.

24 MARIN COUNTY FAIR: Director reported on the 2016 Marin County Fair: 25  The Fair achieved record numbers in nearly all categories.

Page 1 MARIN COUNTY CULTURAL SERVICES COMMISSION; Minutes of Meeting of Wednesday, July 27, 2016  Economic and Performance Indicators. 1  Admission revenues totaled $1,542,587. 2  Food and Beverage Concessions totaled $1,323,194.  Fine Arts, Crafts + Photography presented 130 works, totaling $46,225. 3  The Competitive Exhibits presented 13,920 entries.  The Green Room Gallery grossed $10,210.88. 4  Cash Sponsors totaled $170,000, and In Kind Sponsors totaled $127,895, compared to $39,000 total Sponsorship in 2014. 5  The Marin Cultural Association Wine and Beer Garden grossed $69,241, doubling the 2015 revenue. 6  The MCA Garden will double its size in 2017. 7  Two alcohol vendors failed compliance, and will not be asked to return in 2017.  An RFP has been issued to procure a new Beverage Services Concessionaire for 8 the Island, as well as Marin Center events.  The Schools Rule Gala will be held two nights prior to fair opening in 2017. 9  Marin County Fair will hold an Artist Reception in the Redwood Foyer the night before the fair. 10  Other topics covered were: 11 o The 2017 Budget will be presented at the December 2016 Commission meeting. 12 o Public Safety o Waste Diversion 13 o Water Stations Shuttle Program 14 o o Parking 15 o Healthy Fair Initiatives o Global Marketplace 16 o SMART Train o Farmers’ Market 17 o Marin County Free Library 18 o Headline Concerts/Grounds Acts

19 Discussion followed regarding parking issues and solutions, food portions, petting zoo location, more jewelry in the Green Room, more PR for Baby Derby. 20 MARKETING: 21 Director gave presentation prepared by Marketing and Communications Manager Garrison, on fair highlights, social media metrics and video coverage. 22 FAIR THEME: 23 Bartolini moved, Rose seconded, and by unanimous decision, “Let the Fun Shine In” was 24 voted as the theme for the 2017 Marin County Fair. This is in keeping with many Bay Area organizations celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the music and cultural highlights of 1967’s 25 Summer of Love in San Francisco. 7 ADJOURN: 8 Bartolini moved that the meeting be adjourned in honor of Bill Barboni, Sr.; Cope seconded, the meeting was adjourned at 3:33 pm. 9 The next Commission meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 in the 10 Friends of Marin Center Conference Room, at 1:30 p.m.
