Streetscape Phase II Thursday, June 23, 2005 Community Room – 8:00 a.m.

Those present at the meeting were: Greg Kehl, Deb Lindgren, Brent Wiethorn, Dick Knowles, Gordon Wolf, Pat Stoll, Jodie Hast, Terry Crawford, Mike Freund, and Mark Wiener.

 Mark Wiener, Harris Construction, said that next week the construction company will try to finish the removal of the north side of Broadway to Thrifty White Drug. They are waiting on Badding Construction to finish the wall at the bank so they can start on the south side of the Center Street.

 D.M.U. and Harris Construction are trying to determine when and what buildings are going to be affected by the replacement of hydrants. Pat Stoll, Mike Freund, and Mark Wiener are going to meet today to talk about it. Pat will also determine the area of the businesses affected and get the information to Terry Crawford so the city can get a notice out to the businesses that will be affected.

 Deb Lindgren expressed concerns about the amount of time the process will take. Mark said that the process entails removing the old sidewalk, pouring the 8 feet of sidewalk next to the building (the next day), then leaving 10 feet of landscape and sidewalk area and pouring the curb and gutter. After the curb and gutter are in place, the electrician and landscaper come in and install their conduit in the landscape area. Then they pour the outer 4 feet of sidewalk. After the outer sidewalk is poured, the planter foundations are constructed. Then the planters are set in place prior to the brick paver installation. As far as actual time the store will be inaccessible, Mark said that they would try to minimize that by installing a wooden “bridge” for customers to cross the new sidewalk into the store while the concrete is setting up. It is usually just an hour or two.

 Greg Kehl wanted to know how the businesses could tell if they needed to replace the water lines. Terry said that businesses could have a plumber come into the business and check to see whether the plumbing is of current standards or is still the outdated galvanized steel pipe. Pat said he’d have his water line superintendent check it out.

 Ten Point Construction has not given a timeline for completing the alley by Thrifty White Drug. Ten Point must coordinate with Harris Construction to keep the alley open when Broadway is closed. When contacted later, Kenny Buck said they want to have their crew back at the alley working by next Wednesday and hopefully be finished with the concrete within a week of when they get re-started.

 Harris Construction will try to let the merchants know in advance of when they will reach the businesses.
