Re: Fire Pump access, purchase subsidy and survey

The Municipality of Temagami is offering a subsidy to lake residents to help purchase a new Fire Pump. This will be available to any Town Resident or Cottage Owner that is not provided Temagami Municipal Fire Protection. In order to standardize pumps the subsidy will apply only if you purchase the following pump and accessories:

- 1 WH20 Honda pressure pump

- 1 20’ intake (2”) hose and strainer

- 1 50’ (2”) discharge hose (universal couplings)

- 1 100’ (2”) discharge hose (universal couplings)

- 1 fire nozzle

The actual cost of this pump has been estimated at $1300-$1400 and it is believed the cost could get lower if a number of these pumps are requested through this program. A subsidy of $400.00 is being considered... The Town is in the process of finalizing this program and the Protection to People and Property Committee has been given an opportunity to comment on this program and the pumps/equipment being proposed. There is some logic of going with the same pump for future training and operating these units. The reviews on the Honda WH20 from an operation standpoint are quick favorable from the feedback we have received. One issue that has been raised is the standard size of hose being used. The MNR for most of their firefighting use an 11/2" hose as opposed to 2". Most Fire Departments have both sizes but the smaller hose is used when it has to be moved around more. In order to get a better idea of what to recommend we felt a quick survey would help get a better understanding as to what is out there.
