Dear Progressive Constituency:

We greet you in the precious and powerful name of Jesus the Christ.

On January 13, 2010 a major earthquake devastated the nation of Haiti. Countless homes, schools, businesses, churches and communities were destroyed and the lives of more than 50,000 people taken. The Progressive Baptist Convention has a vested interest in the well-being of brethren throughout the world. Yet, the First Missionary Baptist Sion Church of Cape Haitian, Haiti holds dear. This church is a member of Progressive Baptist State Convention and hallelujah, the pastor and members were spared.

Yet our soul says yes to the mission of brotherly love. As Progressive Baptist State Convention is a part of the body of National Baptist Convention of America we are further compelled to answer the call of urgency. We have learned that the National mission sites have been destroyed, First Baptist Church of Pentionville (Port-au-Prince) and Emmanuel Institute. These churches are supported by our National Convention. The purpose of the Disaster Relief Ministry of the Progressive M. and E. Baptist State Convention of Florida Inc. is to demonstrate the love and compassion of Jesus the Christ for survivors of natural and human made disasters, by promoting hope, healing and wholeness.

Therefore, in view of such a critical situation, the first planned response must come quickly for immediate impact. Every church is asked to receive a love offering from the people of God for the victims. Also, each church is asked to make a donation of at least $200 dollars. We ask that the offering be received Sunday January 17, 2010. Make all checks payable to Progressive M & E. Baptist Convention. Please send all contributions to: In care of Disaster Relief (Haiti). Accountability and Integrity all funds will be utilized for Haiti. We give adoration for who God is, and we offer thanks for what God has done. Secondly, we request that members of our churches donate goods and items for victims and relief workers. Collected items will be transported to Lake Charles, LA. The National Baptist Convention has arranged for these goods and items to be shipped to Haiti, by “The Friend Ship Mission”, Officials of the National Baptist Convention of America will accompany goods and items. A detailed list of goods is attached. Also we have included a list of the drop off sites and dates of the collections. Designated drop off sites are specified on an attached document. Please have all donations prepared in taped boxes of no more than 50 pounds in weight and delivered by January 23, 2010 to the delivery sites: We also ask that future sites be provided by each district Moderator. Sites selected this time for immediate response to Lake Charles before January 24, 2010 Great is the need. So, all churches are asked to receive ongoing contributions that will be received incrementally. Pastors are asked to stay connected to the Disaster Relief Ministry and to continue to lift the relief efforts in prayer. God will sustain, maintain and heal the land. Please do your best to help us make a difference. Thank you in advance for responding to the Macedonian call. If you need additional information, call Dr. Rufus L. Wood Jr. at 850-896-6419 or Pastor Lionel F. Camel at 561-261-9020.

Yours in that blessed hope, Reverend Dr. Bartholomew Banks, Senior President Dr. Rufus L. Wood Jr., Chairperson Rev. Lionel F. Camel, Vice Chairperson
