A winter where friends meet

Our story begins during the chilly winter days. Cathy stayed inside like everyone else in the family in front of the pleasantly hot fire. Drinking a warm cup of hot chocolate while day dreaming about swimming (her favourite hobby) and Christmas. Under the Christmas tree, nestled colourful presents wrapped with shimmering gold ribbon. But they were not to be opened till Christmas. In the background were falling snowflakes chasing each other in the winter wind drifting on the thick, soft layer of snow.

Just when Cathy was about to press the red button to turn on the television, her mom shouted from upstairs, “Cathy, go outside and get some fresh air. Why not go to the park? You always have fun at the park.”

Cathy didn’t want any trouble so she listened to her mum and made her way to the front door.

She put on her pink coat that she got last year as a Christmas present as well as her woolly, light blue hat. Finally, she put on her green gloves and set off into the frosty weather.

As she walked out the cold came to meet her. She trudged down the streets that seemed totally different covered with layers of slippy ice and freezing snow. The rooves of the houses had a massive blanket of snow only the chimney was popping out of the blanket of snow that was on the roofs. Cathy approached the park she recognised the swings which had snow on them to. The slide had too much snow on it that was impossible to push off. The park looked deserted. Maybe everyone was inside because it was so chilly Cathy thought to herself.

All of a sudden, she heard the snow crumbling. She also saw a tiny figure in the distance she could just make out a girl about her age but she wasn’t sure.

As the girl was walking closer, the crunching of snow came closer and louder. Eventually the girl had arrived at slide and she began to try to push the snow off. Cathy came to help her but it was hard to march there. In the end, she climbed up to the slide and Cathy and the girl pushed together. While they were pushing the girl asked Cathy, “What is your name?”

“Cathy,” Cathy answered shyly. Cathy was curious about the girl’s name so she asked in a little voice, “What’s your name?”

She replied, “Zoe.” Chloe

Zoe and Cathy looked at each other then they took a look at the slide. All the snow had tumbled down. All that remained was ice. Strangely the red slide was no longer red. It was blue because of the ice it even looked like it had been polished. They both took turns to slide down.

“Yahoooooo!” Then they screamed on the way down.

At the bottom of the slide was the snow they pushed down so they both fell on a large cushion of freezing cold snow.

After that it was time to go back in. On the way home, they shared their hobbies, Zoe’s hobby was gymnastics. Cathy told Zoe that hers was swimming. Cathy asked Zoe, “Which school do you go to?”

Zoe replied, “Yearsley Grove.” Cathy told Zoe that she went to Yearsley Grove too.

After, they met they couldn’t separate. They knew each other better than anyone else they had both met. The days passed by and they became best friends. Even at school they sat next to each other lunch and played together. Until Christmas…

The day of Christmas came and the girls got very excited. In both homes it smelt of turkey cooking in the oven and noises of laughter from relatives who had come to celebrate.

Until night came Cathy and Zoe new what they were going give each other this Christmas.

The morning came and the girls woke up and screamed “Its Christmas!”. The present Cathy got was a pair of purple swimming goggles whit a picture of a dark blue fish on the sides. Zoe got a beautiful, glittery, yellow gymnastic suit. But the presents they got for each other was a free swimming lesson for Cathy and Zoe got a gymnastic lesson for both of them.

So that was the story of two girls who had no idea they were going to meet each other.

The end.
