Pinecrest High School Saturday Academy:
Moore County Schools Attendance Policy 6000 states, “Students in grades 9-12 who are absent from a class more than eight (8) days during a semester course shall not receive credit for the semester or year where applicable. The maximum numerical grade recorded for such a student for the semester or for the year shall be sixty (60).”
Any student who misses more than eight (8) days in a semester or A/B class may not receive credit for that class, even if the student’s grade is passing. Due to seat time requirements set by the state, a student who misses more than 8 days (excused or unexcused) must recover that time in Saturday Attendance Academy, After School Recovery Period, or other school sponsored attendance recovery programs to recover their missed class time. All excused and unexcused absences between (9 and 20) must be recovered. Students who have less than 20 total absences have the right to appeal their absences to the Attendance Appeals Committee.
The purpose of these attendance recovery programs is to provide the opportunity for students to make up excess absences that might otherwise cause the student to lose credit for a class. Students who do not recover their absences and have not been approved to waive the recovery generally will not be considered for appeal. Any student who receives over 20 absences cannot meet the 135 hours seat time to receive credit and may not appeal unless they have extenuating circumstances documented with doctor or court notes.
Please note that a waiver of the requirement of recovering the missed days can be approved if there are circumstances that preclude the student from attending the recovery program. Any waiver must be pre-approved by the administrator in charge of attendance (Assistant Principal Len Smith) and will be considered only on a case by case basis. Waiver requests should be submitted through the At Risk Counselor (Joy Stephens).
ALL RECOVERED TIME AND WORK MUST BE MADE UP IN THE 6 WEEKS GRADING PERIOD IN WHICH IT WAS MISSED.
Saturday Attendance Academy dates for the 2014-2015 1st Semester are: OCTOBER 25, NOVEMBER 8, NOVEMBER 15, DECEMBER 6, DECEMBER 13, and JANUARY 10, 2015. I, ______, have read the Pinecrest High School (Name of parent/guardian) Attendance Policy and hereby agree that ______, my son/daughter, (Name of student) will attend Saturday School. I also have reviewed and understand the following: There is no registration fee for all Saturday Attendance Academy opportunities. Pre-registration is required.* Note if enough students do not register Saturday Academy will not be held for that date. Any student with more than (8) eight excused or unexcused absences must make up class time to bring the total number of absences at or below (8) absences. Students are responsible for their transportation to and from Saturday Attendance Academy on the scheduled days. Students will not be admitted into the class after 9:00 a.m. Students are expected to have their school ID and sign roster(s) upon entering attendance recovery. Students are expected to abide by all school rules, as they will be subject to disciplinary actions as is the policy during the normal school day. Students will not receive credit for attending Saturday Attendance for any scheduled class with less than nine (9) absences. Students are responsible for verifying, with each of the teachers, if they have more than eight (8) days of absence for that class. Student can only attend a maximum of six (6) half days and they will not receive credit for attending classes beyond the allowable number.
