4 Department of General Practice Report of Activities 2004

INTRODUCTION

Throughout 2004 the QUB members of the Department of General Practice have, together with their valued colleagues in primary care who are based in all corners of Northern Ireland and beyond, continued to contribute to the education of undergraduate medical students. They have also continued to contribute to postgraduate medical education and to the research base of primary care.

This report serves to update the research and educational activities listed in the Department’s 2003 Report. The collaboration of many practitioners and primary care teams in both research and education is much appreciated by all staff members of the Department. Without their collaborative support the activities listed could not continue. With this support it is hoped that the Department will be enabled to continue to grow in its provision of learning opportunities for future colleagues.

The research activity continues to be carried out within four broad themes: Promoting health Managing chronic illness Inequalities in health Health technology

Educational contributions continue to be made to both all years of the undergraduate medical curriculum and to post-graduate training.

Further details of the activities outlined in this report may be found in the Department’s website: www.qub.ac.uk/cm/gp.
