The aim of the course The intention of the course is to provide an overview of the second biggest field of EU legislation, from the introduction to environmental issues to an outline of legal instruments. The following topics are going to be presented in a nutshell:  introduction to environmental protection and law in a comparative perspective  the EC/EU environmental policy, going along the environmental action programmes till the current (7th) programme  development and actual grounds of environmental law in primary legislation of EU with the major questions of their implementation  general legal principles in EU law and their implementation in environmental legislation  right to environment in Europe (European Convention, ECHR and Charter of Fundamental Rights)  overview of legal instruments in use in secondary legislation with examples and cases. The whole course has a special focus on the litigation practice of CJEU, using cases studies.

Requirements: - to visit the classes (3 absence is allowed). www.curia.eu - a short – approx 5 pages – discussion paper presented on a case of CJEU or ECHR or domestic jurisprudence in connection with a selected field of environmental law, - in addition those, who need a grade or mark at the end, shall have a written exam (test) at the last meeting.
