Plantwise Country Plans 2015

1. Developing/Strengthening national partnerships  Pursue the signing of the partnership agreement.  Restructure National Steering Committee to provide guidance for implementation of the programme. (1.5)  Hold 3 national steering committee meetings. (1.5)  Explore opportunities to increase collaboration with the University of Costa Rica-CPROC (Centre for Pest Management Research).

2. Trainings

 Conduct data management training module for 20 participants (3.1)  Train 20 plant doctors, supervisors and selected members of the support network in the Monitoring Plant Clinic Performance module (5.2; 5.3)  Organise one “specific topic” training, per region if needed, based on the technical needs detected through monitoring activities (3.2)

3. Establish network of plant clinics  Backstop existing 10 clinics to improve quality and continue operating regularly. (1.7)

4. Support materials for plant doctors and farmers  Develop 20 PMDGs and 10 factsheets and 10 photosheets for plant doctors and selected national experts (2.4, 4.4)  Develop guide for in-country partners and plant doctors including relevant information such as list of agro-input dealers, directory of diagnostic services, and national list of registered pesticides, etc. (2.2., 2.3)  Identify materials produced by non-PW organisations (e.g. ICafe, DIECA) and evaluate its’ potential for use and distribution at plant clinics (2.8)

5. In-country data management  Activate the data management structure for the country. (4.2)  Activate the official channel for data collection/centralization(3.1)  Promote the use of POMS as the tool for data management and analysis within national partners. (4.5)  Define, together with the Local Implementing Organisation (LIO)/National Responsible Organisation (NRO) the levels of access to the information on the Plantwise Online Management System (POMS) by the different stakeholders. (4.5)

6. Monitoring, evaluation, and impact assessment  Put in place, with the national partners, the monitoring plan to evaluate the quality of the plant clinics service. (5.3)  Carry out 4 monitoring visits to all clinics

Linking plant clinics with agro-input suppliers  No activities planned for 2015

Linking with diagnostic services  Establish channels for sending samples from plant clinics to national diagnostic laboratories. (2.7)

Plant health rallies and mass extension campaigns  Define priority plant heath topics based on the plant clinics register and perform at least 5 PHRs (3.3)

8. In-country scaling-up of Plantwise  No activities planned for 2015

9. Advocacy and public awareness

Public awareness  Prepare an advocacy strategy including video, radio and periodic informative publications about plant clinic services(1.12)  Run mass promotional activities to raise awareness about plant clinics (e.g. radio, print) (1.12)

Embedding Module 1&2 and PHS approaches in diploma or degree level training  No activities planned for 2015

10. Review and planning  Hold a meeting with the LIO to coordinate the implementation of activities planned for 2015 (1.5)  Review 2015 performance; and present, discuss and approve the annual activity plan with LIO/NRO for 2016 (1.5)
