POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Head of Collections, responsible for day-to-day operations associated with the Library’s resource-sharing programs. Hires, trains, and supervises student assistants who assist with resource sharing. As a team member in a cross-trained environment, participates in other Library activities as needed. This position serves in the Library, and works closely with colleagues in the Center for Digital Liberal Arts and Information Technology Services.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND GOALS

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by an individual assigned to this job. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Performs tasks related to all resource sharing programs. Communicates with partners and external colleagues. Assists the Library Director in establishing and maintaining reciprocal agreements.

2. Serves as specialist for Interlibrary Loan. Performs complex bibliographic searching. Interprets bibliographic citations. Communicates routinely with vendors. Verifies invoices and payments. Monitors copyright compliance needs; maintains, gathers and submits statistics to the Copyright Clearance Center; compiles and reports resource-sharing statistics.

3. Interacts with students, faculty, and staff in providing library services and in resolving problems. Exercises judgment in applying and interpreting library policies.

4. Hires, schedules, trains, and supervises student assistants.

5. Provides support for other activities and tasks in the Access Services Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Requires Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years library experience or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates strong knowledge of and experience with relevant library services, practices, and technologies in an academic library setting.  Must possess excellent bibliographic search skills and a working knowledge of OCLC.  Prefer two years’ experience in document delivery or interlibrary loan services working with resource sharing systems such as ILLIAD.

 Requires previous supervisory experience with student employees and an ability to work well with diverse students, faculty and staff.  Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to learn numerous workflows and policies.  Must have superior oral and written communication skills.  Should be a self-starter who can work effectively as part of a team.  Must be able to carry loads up to 25 pounds.
