Dear Parent/Guardian,
My name is Mrs. Pope and I have the pleasure of being your child’s US History teacher this year. I have taught at the middle school level for 41 years and I thoroughly enjoy both the subject and the young people I teach. I would like to take this opportunity to explain some of my class policies. Social Studies is a challenging area of the curriculum. Not only does it present new information, it also reinforces critical Common Core skills such as critical reading and writing and thinking. Social Studies is also an important vehicle for the development of academic skills. Students today need a solid foundation in all of these areas in order to be successful in high school and beyond. Therefore I have high expectations for all my students. Please read the following policies and guidelines carefully.
Your support is crucial to the success of your child. Therefore I have several ways you can keep in touch with me. 1. E-mail [email protected] . This is an excellent way to communicate with me. 2. Phone –although I do my best to get back to you on the day you leave a message sometimes this is not possible. I will however return all calls I receive. 3. Remind- Please check the Parent. This is a way I can keep you up to date on assignments. 4. Zoom – This is a new tool I am piloting this year. It is meant to provide you with an option to speak with me face to face (virtually). I will be having online office hours once a week. This will be on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. I will send a link for each week’s virtual meeting through the Remind service. 5. Stop by-before or after school. Please contact me via phone or email to set up a day/time to meet. I want to be sure I will be there. 6. I am looking forward to working with you and your child this school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at (626)287-5260 x5244 or e-mail me at [email protected] .
Sincerely,
Mrs. D. Pope
