Do You Speak Body Language? Name: Oral Comm. Period: Boller 50 pts. Due Monday, Oct. 2
After you have read the article, "Do You Speak Body Language?" answer the following questions. If you finish it in class today, turn it in to your period's tray. If you do not finish it in class today, you will need to have it finished to turn in at the beginning of class Monday. Make sure to notice the point value attached to each question, and give a long enough answer to complete the question completely.
1. In the article, Ray Birdswhistell says that we interpret a certain percentage of conversation through body language. What is that percentage range, and what do you think he means by, "…conversation is interpreted through body language?" (8 pts.)
2. At the bottom of the first page, there is a story about a manager with terrible morale at work. If you were one of his employees, how would you have, A) interpreted his body language/thought of how he behaved, and B) what would you have done to help him correct it? (10 pts.)
3. Why do you need to "listen" to your body language more than your words? (7 pts.) 4. Back to the manager example. Think of teachers/administrators as managers. How can we take this advice and improve our body language/communication with students? (7 pts.)
5. Look at the second page. When it comes to public speaking, what pieces of advice that the article gives about perception and confidence can you take away and apply when you are in front of an audience? (8 pts.)
6. Look at the last paragraph again. Reread the tips the author gives to you. How can you apply those in communication with A) friends, B) your boy/girlfriend, and C) your family? (10 pts.)
