2017 BEL Faculty Research Awards Application Guidelines

BEL Faculty Early Career Researcher (ECR) Excellence in Research Award and BEL Faculty Higher Degree Research (HDR) Excellence in Research Award

Background and Aims The 2017 BEL Research Awards aim to recognise and reward outstanding contributions to research in the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law. The awards focus on researchers in the early stages of their research career, either as an Early Career Researcher or a Higher Degree Research candidate.

Award Categories The 2017 BEL Research Awards are comprised of two separate awards. Each award recipient will be provided with a plaque, $2500 to contribute to their research, and will be announced at the end of year Faculty Board meeting on Tuesday 14 November. The awards are as follows:

ECR EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH AWARD The Early Career Researcher Excellence in Research Award recognises significant research contributions made by a researcher from the Faculty of Business, Economics & Law who received her/his PhD within the last five years. The award recipient will have demonstrated outstanding research relative to opportunity.

HDR EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH AWARD The Higher Degree Research Excellence in Research Award recognises outstanding contributions made by a current PhD candidate from the Faculty of Business, Economics & Law in her/his field of research, relative to opportunity.

Eligibility To be eligible for the ECR Excellence in Research Award, nominees must: . Be appointed at least 100% by the Faculty of Business, Economics & Law . Be a current Teaching and Research appointment in one of the BEL Faculty Schools, and can be a fixed term or confirmed/continuing appointment . The date of the PhD award must be shown to be within 5 years- so for this round, anyone who has graduated in 2012 or later is eligible.

To be eligible for the HDR Excellence in Research Award, nominees must:  Be a confirmed PhD candidate, full or part-time  The PhD can be submitted or under examination or conferred in 2017.

Criteria for assessment for both awards

 Be recognised as having potential to make a major contribution in a field of research  Emerging evidence that the results of their research are advancing one or more of the following: theory, methods, practice in their profession, or relationships with industry.

Assessment . Nominees must address their alignment with the criteria of each award within the 2017 BEL Research Award Application Form. Applications will be assessed and ranked by the Faculty of Business, Economics & Law Research Committee or a sub-committee thereof. The Faculty reserves the right to request additional information from applicants if required. A recommendation is then made to the Executive Dean for final determination on the award recipients for 2017. The Faculty of Business, Economics & Law reserves the right not to make an award if it determines that no applications are of sufficiently high standard.

Process and Timeline . All applications must be made via the 2017 BEL Research Awards Application Form. . All applications must be endorsed and signed by the relevant School Research Director prior to submission. . Submit via email to the BEL Associate Dean (Research), Professor Victor Callan, ([email protected]) a completed and signed 2017 BEL Research Awards Application Form plus a shortened Academic/Research CV (no more than 10 pages) as a combined pdf file named as “Applicant’s full name_2017 BEL Research ECR Award” or (HDR Award) by COB Monday 11 September 2017. . Successful applicants will receive $2500 funding into a nominated research account to support research endeavours acceptable to their School. This funding will be transferred in early 2018. . The winners will be announced and presented with their awards at the end-of-year BEL Faculty Board meeting on Tuesday 14 November commencing at 3pm. . In submitting an application, applicants must acknowledge that it is expected that they will attend the Awards presentation on Tuesday 14 November 2017 commencing at 3pm. * We therefore recommend you put a date claimer in your diaries.
